I'm kind of ashamed to state mine. Whew! 3yrs plus! Slow down...been working here and there on jobs that are not fully exploring my potentials. I belong in HR, been trying to set myself on the career path by getting more certifications and even specialising in it with my MBA but no HR job yet. In fact, I have even considered offering to intern in a structured HR dept of good organisations but finance na my oga. It is well...

Hmmmn my story is kinda different and very long


I finished service feb 2014. However during service I was working with a big IT firm as a marketing staff. The pay was 40k and the job was gud . The stress wasnt much cos the company knows that getting a client to successfully buy a product was a big deal ( most of our customers were banks ,some insurance companies sef cdnt afford the products). The job had a lot of swag, a car and driver at ur beck and call . This made my job search a lot easier as I could easily go out for a test or interview and den rush back to the office. If retained the company promised to increase my salary to 120k before tax. However as a career path conscious fellow I wnted to work with a financial institution (either bank or non bank)

Well this is whr my issue started ooooo


I am 27 and married and I knew dis cld discourage some employers(most firms ask for 26 max) but I felt graduating with a First Class , professional certification and a good test/ interview performance should make up for that.(I say this with all humility)

December 2013 I got an offer from a financial advisory firm blasted the test and interview and dey were really impressed. During negotiation I asked for 120k as a minimum but the firm was like they can only afford 80k,but that they will increase it after 3 mnths.
I went with the offer cos I felt working in am industry I loved was better staying on the marketing job.

Jan 2014 I resigned from the IT firm and resumed at the new firm immediately. The job was tasking as it was purely analytical but I still loved it and gave my best.

wahala started 3 mnths afta wen I asked for salary increase and d firm gave excuses but I still continued. 6 mnths into the job I asked again and d same excuse was given. That was when I decided to start luking elsewhere for a job. Then the firm was alredy owing Salaries and dey wld give all sort of excuses. Before I knew what was happening they were consistently owing 2mnths salary. To cut the story short sha, the firm tld me dey needed a temporary arrangement with me becos of cash flow issues (that I do not want to delve delve into).
I sed ok but please pay me the 2 mnths you are owing but d firm is giving me stories oooo. Neeways am bak sitting at home , but trust me I dey send CV like no man's business ,school ooo marketing ooooo all join at least until I get a job in d industry I want.

I jst hate being idle. Ryt now am reading and all.

lemme also mention that I can pray for hours now ooooo cos I need baba God on my side

Been on it for some months. Got a job offer at a village d pay 25k, dunno if i can cope with village life nd all.

Being hustling for 6months and just last week I was interviewed for a job of 50k for a probation period of 6months before increased. Am still waiting for their resumption of duty call. Being idle is the worst thing to happen to a young soul.

Hello great nairalanders. I'm the OP of this thread. I have come here today to show my appreciation to those who has contributed meaningfully to this thread. You guys have been wonderful and has been given hope to the once hopeless ones like me. I wanna announce today that I have gotten a Job - resumed about two weeks ago, and it is actually a very good place to start with and maybe continue. Lol. I wish you all the best. I haven't served yet because it is mandatory that we must undergo a one year internship before NYSC. Its really frustrating and depressing staying idle at home. Sometimes I cry my eyes out, but the goodnews is that I still have Faith in God. I strongly believe I shall divinely secure a hospital for my compulsory internship in this month of september and I'll come back to testify by the special grace of the Almighty God. 8

mehn am jus depressed...finished service july 2nd....since den no job...wrote UBA test yesterday bt not successful(cldnt stii believe how that happened)..submitting c.v here and deir...i jus pray Jah wii bless me soon wit a job!!

I guess you reside somewhere around SS/SE/SW(I might be wrong), because your colleagues here in the North don't have such problems. There are lots of good hospitals looking for Interns, and some of you from the South are really coming over to enrol.

The situation in the North is not as terrible as it's been painted in the media.

Staying up late reading this thread so that I can find some encouragement. Finished NYSC 5 Months noe and still searching. Gone for tests, but no call backs yet. Though I do some small business to keep going, but I got family to take care of. Not easy at all, but I have much faith in God...

U're welcome, I'm not in same field with you but I got to know of this through my next-door neighbour at home(Kano).

He had friends/colleagues that came over to do their internship in Kano due to the lack of opportunities in the South. I think Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital were recruiting interns as at that time.

Well got a digital marketing job with an android telecoms 3months after nysc in 2016

Net pay was 37k
Promised to be increased after 2 months of probation

After probation, d fourth month I got 5k increase
Could not stand d insult so I resigned in d 7th month Feb 2017

Cos I wasn't learning on the job and was pay was too little

Today I have skills in Photoshop and coreldraw, everything that has to deal with digital marketing. Learned a lot
Searching on after 9 months
Got some really bad offers like 25k 40k but am not accepting it cos dey lie dey will increase salary and dey dont

Finish service on feb 2014, a 2.1 grad of unilag, wth hse n proj mgt certs. I returned back 2 lag frm ebonyi(nysc) wth high hopes. Started applyin d very next day i returned online for 1month, den i changed strategy to (online n offline cv application). Almost everyday i dress corporate armed wth my cv in d morning i distribute dem to companies directly at strategic locations like a marketer, and evenings wen coys hav closed, i apply online at home (smart isn't it). Backed my deeds wth prayer and commitments. Now i got a job at cway on april, my offline paid off faster dan online. As i walked into d company at oshodi wthout an invitation, i told d gatemen i want to see d HR dat it is official (wth boldness) and i was granted. I met her told her my plight, she told me dat actually one slot is vacant, dat she has little tym to browse thru cv's, i gave her mine in person, i was qualified n fits in, she took me the manager, interview n test done, i am a QC there now. Pay is good for a start and i have time to attend intervws at bigger coys (i don dey select work now, ℓ☺ℓ). Its God tho. Hope u learnt sometime. God bless you and give yu foresight, Amen!!!!
