Its baffling to read comments of people saying if we want to enjoy what doctors enjoy then we should go to school and study for 6years.Well said!!! Wait a minute my jamb admission letter reads ''Duration of course = 5years'',so please someone should tell me what suffering is attached to 6years that isn't attached to 5years,After my 5 years i am expected to go on a 1 year compulsory internship period which makes it 6 years added to the one year nysc program= 7years did i hear you say woah?.well MBBS and BDS students spend 8years in total,so any right thinking would look at the above and tell me we are still less relevant.
To the group that says only MBBS students know about every other medical field should take a look at this:My part one in LUTH saw me offer courses in Anatomy,Physiology, and Biochemistry.Mind you mbbs students did the same thing.then i proceeded to offer a 3 weeks course in the department of Nursing + another 3 weeks program in laboratory science(bottom line:i can perform the duties of nurses and lab scientists without any issues at least mbbs students spend the same duration in those departments) but i won't do that simply because i respect their field i won't teach them their field just because i have knowledge of it.Why would i stop you from being a consultant in your field when it is evident you spent the vast majority of your precious time studying just that area? The ''I sabi all'' mentality is killing innocent Nigerians.Alarming casualties in hospitals because doctors are simply taking up someone's else responsibility just because you know the surface anatomy of that job..I want right thinking nigerians to evaluate this and judge for themselves.
Shallom!!!

i am glad 2c the word relevant in ur post, atleast we are closing in on the real issues and not the peak of a career thing. Stop educating lay nigerians by sentimental fact that leads them far from the real and underlying issues. I will try 2use analogies to paint issues here.
Can a doctor say at one point in his life that because he took some elective courses in the faculty of law, that he was taugth medicolegal aspects of medicine and has gone ahead to obtain a phd in medicolegal aspect of medicine, the court should do more than value his professional opinion and allow him represent a client in court, bear the name barister or even a SAN. just because he is also relevant when such cases are 2b heard. Some lawyers may at best feel he shouldnt be stopped from representing smone but he should represent anoda doctor b4 a medical n dental council panel and not the court.

To some nigerians the two professions maybe too far apart so lets use an automobile company that has car builders in their employment who are trained 2 know how2 build all parts of a car and some who specialize in designing and building of the body and accessories, designing and building of d engine and accessories. These specialist are consulted and or employed for their expertise to train and make new specialist and actually build cars and are highly rated and paid. Also in their employment are technical staff who went through rigorous training 2 master how 2 mount engines, wheels and other accessories with classes in different types of body and engine designs and how to interprete mounting intructions written by car builders so they do not fit parts that disintegrates during tests. So wenever a technical staff attains additional qualifications that makes him a master in d art n skill of mounting automobile parts and he vehemently and passionately requests 2b seen as a consultant in d employment of dsame automobile company so he can be seen to have reached d peak of his career, earning d priviledges and allowances of those who built d parts n accessories with accompaning instructions 4him 2 mount. In dsame manner as above some builders may not want 2 undermine his expertise in mounting parts but would rather have hin consult in and head an allied company where premanufactured parts are assembled 2 provide cars for clients 2far frm d company location. There he can attend 2 issues of worn out engine seats and loose parts and not meadle in issues of bad engines dat arise at d factory and dat may lead some clients to FAQ pages of consultants at dat level.

These are analogies dat paints the picture of happenings in the health sector- the NMA vs JOHESU crises and i hope it helps nigerians understand it without sentiments.

No one is contesting the ''Dr'' name with the doctors at least they can address themselves by that in front of the ebola virus.point is doctors have started plotting their downfall and it is disastrous to both them and the profession

the problem in health sector is that some of the professionals are not good in adapting to changes.the doctors are finding it difficult to accept that other professions are expanding, improving and evolving. they find it hard to accept that Nurses can be degree holders, master and PhD holders.they keep comparing medicine and nursing which can never be compared cos they are two different progression. One says its 6yrs course the other said its 5 years both when graduated are degree Holders. they do internship which nurses will start very soon, pharmacy and med lab are doing the same internship.pls people on appointment drs start on grade level12 other 8,and 10 and here they are asking of relativity saying yet d salary of a nurse on 12 shld not be equal to that of dr on 12 not minding that the nurse must have put up not least 9 years to 12yrs to get to that grade level 12 that a newly employed 10 is starting like wise other health professionals.they don't want others yo be consultants when the body regulating that profession has stipulated the criteria for their members to be consultants saying that they d drs suffer to be a consultant.pls if for instance nursing and midwifery council of Nigeria state that for one to be a nurse consultant he must be a masters degree holder in nursing and must have gone through with courses with west African council of nursing and is now a fellow is that not their criteria? must d nurse go through the same drs procedure to be a consultant nurse?mind you we are talking of consultant nurse not dr here .is it the issue of a director where other proffesionals outside health get to direct and now drs said that even If u have PhD that when u get to asst director you shld remain there .OK 100k hazard allowance for only drs imagine are they exposed to hazard than the nurse that stays with this
patient 24/7 or the lab scientists that deals with biohazards everyday? that they are asking for only drs if others ask theirs drs will go on strike .I think the drs shld know that other professions are growing and shld accept that fact that not the nurses you have in 1980 that is around now not med lab tech now but med lab science .each profession in health shld fight to progress and be the best in their profession and forget about fighting each other cos all of them must work together for patient to

God bless you and your generations Ten times over.It is obvious doctors are against the development of other health professionals.it is becoming evident that they are scared other medical professionals would expose their incompetence and shortcomings.Once again God bless you and the teachers that taught you BRAINS + BOOKS

Good day all. am a new member of this thread. I initially wanted to study medicine but due to my jamb score I had to change to a course under medical line. By d grace of God,when the school resumes next year, I will be a malabress (university of calabar)and I will be resuming wit dem in the department of radiography and radiological science. so my seniors I would like to really know 1 or 2 things about the course because not everyone like me know about what this profession entails. I would like to know : the years, the main subjects or courses I will encounter and after getting the degree what next.
