13 August 2014 Updated 12:47 GMT
Luis Suarez will learn the
Court of Arbitration for
Sport's verdict on
Thursday
Luis Suarez is "an accident waiting to happen"
and Liverpool were right to sell the striker,
Premier League chief executive Richard
Scudamore has said.
The Uruguay international is serving a four-
month ban for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini
at the World Cup.
The 27-year-old, who will discover the
outcome of his appeal against that ban on
Thursday, left Anfield to join Barcelona for
£75m in the summer.
"I can't say that I'm sorry to see him go,"
Scudamore said.
Suarez was voted player of the year by both
the Professional Footballers' Association and
the Football Writers' Association last season
after scoring 31 goals in 33 Premier League
games for the Reds.
Scudamore, speaking at the official launch of
the 2014-15 Premier League season, said: "At
the end of the day, he's a great player and I'm
not taking anything away from his talents.
Luis Suarez controversies
June 2014 - Banned for four months from
any football-related activity, plus nine
international matches, for biting Italy
defender Giorgio Chiellini
April 2013 - Apologises for biting Chelsea
defender Branislav Ivanovic and receives a
10-game ban
Dec 2011 - Given eight-match suspension
and fined £40,000 for racially abusing
Manchester United's Patrice Evra
Nov 2010 - Given seven-match ban for
biting PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal on
the shoulder while playing for Ajax
"He was voted, by both his own players and
the media last year, the player of the year.
Deservedly so. Great to have, but an accident
waiting to happen - you are always waiting for
the next thing to come along.
"And this one, in the summer, although it was
with Uruguay, although at the World Cup,
although it didn't directly involve the Premier
League - clearly, Liverpool, as one of our great
clubs, it reflected on them and it reflected on
us.
"It was good business on a number of levels
for Liverpool to move Luis Suarez on."
Suarez was banned from "all football-related
activity" for four months and suspended for
nine international games for biting Chiellini.
He argued the terms of the ban were excessive
and an appeal hearing took place at the Court
of Arbitration for Sport last week.
The CAS verdict will be released at 14:00 BST
on Thursday, with the detailed reasons for the
decision published at a later date.
His legal team were expected to argue that he
should be allowed to train with his new side
during his suspension and that the ban
should be limited to international football.
The ban handed down from world governing
body Fifa was the longest in World Cup
history.

Suarez apologised afterwards, despite initially
claiming to have lost his balance.
He has previously been suspended for biting
PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal and
Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.
He was also given an eight-match suspension
and fined £40,000 for racially abusing
Manchester United's Patrice Evra in 2011

While we continue to wait (get used to
that) let's remind ourselves how good the
main man himself was last year.
Here's a reminder of each and every one
of the 31 goals he bagged for Liverpool
last season, while we also threw a load of
Suarez stats at the wall and here's
what's stuck. It's got bar graphs and
everything.

CAS delivers verdict and upholds Luis Suarez's ban for bite on Giorgio Chiellini - but the forward will be allowed to train with his Barcelona team-mates

Luis Suárez has lost his appeal to reduce his four-month ban for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup. He will, however, be allowed to train with his Barcelona team-mates.The 27-year-old Uruguayan striker last week pleaded his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after one of the most shocking events of the summer sporting extravaganza in Brazil which has also delayed his Barcelona debut.Suarez, who has a record of bans for biting opponents, was barred from all football-related activity for four months after biting Chiellini on the shoulder during Uruguay's June 24 World Cup group game against Italy in the Brazilian city of Natal. He was also suspended for nine matches with his country and fined £66,000.Fifa ordered the punishment because Suarez at first showed no remorse, although Sepp Blatter later dubbed the sanction harsh. However, after being sent home from Brazil, Suarez apologised.ADVERTISEMENT"The truth is that my colleague Giorgio Chiellini suffered the physical result of a bite in the collision he suffered with me," Suarez said in a message posted on Twitter on June 30."I deeply regret what occurred. I apologize to Giorgio Chiellini and the entire football family."Suarez subsequently left Liverpool for the Spanish league, after a £75m deal with Barcelona. As it stands, though, he will have to wait until late October before he can play for the Catalan club.As such, Suarez and the Uruguayan Football Association turned to CAS after a failed appeal to Fifa.Barcelona, anxious to tap the striking skills that saw Suarez notch up 31 goals in 33 matches for Liverpool last season, are also parties to the CAS case.CAS is the final court of appeal in the world of sport and can override decisions by individual federations.Suarez has been backed in his appeal by world players' union FIFPro and his lawyers said last week they were confident of getting the ban slashed to two months. That would make the striker available to play from Aug 25, thereby only missing Barcelona's opening fixture of the season, at home to lowly Elche the day before.Suarez's lawyers also want him to be allowed to train with Barcelona for the remaining days of his suspension."The sanctions are a disproportionate response to the offence. Especially the four-month ban from all football-related activity, which is unfair for Suarez as it infringes his right to work at club level," FIFPro said earlier this month.Suarez was banned for 10 games for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in 2013 and sidelined for seven matches for the same offence against PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal when he was with Dutch club Ajax in 2010.
