Happy sunday. While @ church,the officiating priest read us a directive from the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria to all the Dioceses in Nigeria concerning the outbreak of the Ebola virus and they included the following..
-The sign of peace has been suspended till further notice. Now to be replaced by a 'respectful bow' to one another.
-The use of Holy Water Fonts in the Catholic Church has been suspended till further notice.
-Priests who are on sick call are to take proactive measures to secure their health and wellbeing especially where it involves bodily contact with the patient. Eg:During the application of Holy Oil. By using hand sanitisers and washing with soap and water after such visits.
-Funerals:Great care must be taken to ensure minimal contact with corpses due to the fact that the virus can pass through and infect a living person
-Members of the Finance Committees of every parish should when counting Offertories,use hand sanitisers and Gloves to avoid spread of the virus.
-Holy Communion-Due to these circumstances,the ordinary and extraordinary ministers involved in the distribution of The Holy Eucharist should thoroughly wash their hands and also suspend placing The Eucharist on the tongue of parishioners. Henceforth,it is to be placed on the hand of the parishioner to be transferred only by the individual involved to his/her mouth.
-The Chief Sacristian shall provide water and soap to be used by the Priest and Altar Servers before,during and after Mass.
-Finally,The Catholic Bishops Conference calls on members of the Nigerian Medical Association to lay down their arms and join in the fight against this virus.

I love the response of churches over this issue. My Deeperlife state pastor also took some time today to enlighten us about the issue and some general health issue.
