The annual Olojo festival in Ile-Ife, the cradle of Yoruba race, kicked off on Monday with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, going into seclusion for five days to commune with gods and ancestors.

The second-in-command to Ooni of Ife, High Chief Solomon Folorunsho Omisakin, disclosed this in Ile-Ife while addressing the newsmen on the activities listed for this year’s festival.

High Chief Omisakin, who stated that the annual Olojo festival was not about any particular religion but to celebrate the cultural values, noted that a number of activities had been lined up to make the current event significant and standardised nationally.

Chief Omisakin, while describing the Olojo festival as the most cherished annual celebration in Ile-Ife, said there were about 200 festivals that were being celebrated in the entire Ile-Ife on daily basis in a year.

According to him, “As you are fully aware, Olojo festival is celebrated about this time every year in the ancient city of Ile-Ife.”
