I think its not all fertilisers,those designed specifically to prevent the soil from pest are harmful.

@ op, yes........Chemical fertilizers can have extensive effects on human health. They can contaminate the quality of surface water and groundwater, as well as cause poisoning in most of the individuals who eat pesticide-sprayed fruits and vegetables.

abdulizom: Too much fertilizer on any plant changes the colour of such plant and also affects its life span, there is no amount of manure that affect both colour and plant life span. Talking from experience as a born farmer. Thanks

Well inorganic fertilizers used in excess would actually kill the plants before they could even be considered to harm humans but can be harmful if washed into water bodies by rainfall or surface run-off

Weedicides are used to kill weeds andpestiides to kill pests. Weedicides will kill any plant it is sprayed on. The ones that kill all other plants except the crop you planted are made by Mosanto designed to kill plants that are not genetically engineered by Mosanto. Inorganic fertilizers are harmful depending on how much is absorbed by the plant....how much gets into the drinking water supply mainly by run off or through rainfall. The list of harm is ever increasing....from cancer to autism. Visit a village or farming community where fertilizer is widely used and you will hear of common health problems like loss of pregnancy...men unable to make their wives pregnant...etc...problems that never plagued the community before the wide use of fertilizers.

Fertilizer is not made for human consumptiom,it is made to help crop/plants to grow n have much yield. I dont knw y u will want to consume ferilizer...

fertilizer doesnt have any direct effect on human but has direct effect on the environment. when it is applied, it washes down to the water table and humans pump same water for consumption.....so its indirctly does have effect on man

The logic is - if fertilizers, especially inorganic or chemically processed fertilizers lower the quality of plant food (e.g., yam grown without fertilizer is always sweeter than yam with fertilizer, as indeed they do), it then means that fertilizers are harmful to human and animal health. The exception here is organic fertilizers. Plant wastes, animal dung, food wastes, natural stuffs, etc. are organic fertilizers which if applied to plants pose no danger to human life, but any fertilizer that has been churned out from a factory or industrial process is bad.
