In the year 1973, A civil servant, John Hutchinson had taken few pictures of London which had threatened a serious changes. He had a fear that the Victorian building which had survived during the Second world war will be lost forever, so he had taken those pictures. Now almost after 40 years of time we can see how london has changed by comparing old and new images.

The Coliseum theatre in london was designed by Frank MatchMan For Sir Oswald Stoll. He had an ambition that this place should be the largest and the finest “People’s Palace of Entertainment” of that time. The Piccadilly Theatre, as its name suggests, is located in the Piccadilly district of London’s West End. It is One of the largest theatres when it first opened in the year 1928. This tells us about the changes that have taken place in the streets of london.(3rd pic)

John Hutchinson said that the idea that london could loose these building that had survived even during the wars, was only for the sake of profit motive. So he did whatever he could do. He taken the pictures of them, he didnt had much time but still he managed to take the pictures during his lunch break. This picture tells about the piccadilly circus in the year 1973 and the Piccadilly circus now.

In the year 1973 soho was a very terrible place even during the day. This picture tells about the shop merchants of poultry and the bookmaker outside Romily street in Soho in the year 1973 and the same view today.

Earlier Covent Gardens was such a quiter and a calm place during the day time due to another schedules in those days. The shops and the various markets started early in the morning and many would have closed when he arrived. You can see the people sitting on the tables after loading their materials and goods. This Picture tells about the calm environment in the covent gardens in the year 1973 and now the place is covered with shops and restaurants.

Because of the intervention of the minister robert Carr and also because of public intervention many of these building are left for future generations. John was very pleased that many of the buildings remained. he said that our cities should have more than one generation to look like now so you have to put up with it. It is much better today in soho and covent gardens with life, day and night in contrast to those times.
