Another Ebola death in Port Harcourt by LUVTB(m): 7:08pm On Sep 03, 2014 |
Nigeria on Wednesday announced that a seventh person had died from Ebola and another person was confirmed as having the virus. The latest death was a patient at the isolation ward in the oil city of Port Harcourt, where a doctor died on August 22 after treating a Liberian man who had brought the disease into the country. The other five deaths were in the financial capital, Lagos. Four were healthcare workers who had treated the Liberian, who also died. Health ministry spokesman Dan Nwomeh said 18 people, including the deceased, had now been confirmed as having the virus in Nigeria — 14 in Lagos and four in Port Harcourt, 435 kilometres (270 miles) away. The wife of the Port Harcourt doctor who died was being treated at an isolation unit in Lagos, while another case was in a quarantine facility in the oil industry hub. Eight people who contracted the virus have been successfully treated and discharged, Nwomeh said in a series of statements on Twitter. A ninth person, who infected the Port Harcourt doctor, also recovered. A total of 41 people were under surveillance in Lagos and 255 in Port Harcourt. And 320 people have been discharged in Lagos after being under surveillance for 21 days — the virus’ incubation period. That stupid doctor Enemuo brought this misery on his family! Now his kids are orphans because of his lack of tact and blatant carelessness! Being a doctor and knowing just how contagious this ebola of a thing is, he should have alerted the authorities the moment he knew that ecowas guy had escaped from Lagos to come and see him! He knew he wasn't equipped to handle ebola, yet he went ahead and attempted to treat the man! It's his wife and kids i'm feeling for, not him! 3 Likes |

The doctor did not give his action the second thought. I wish he was alive to see the consequences of his action. However, there is nowhere in the story that the doctor's wife was said to have passed on. It is a patient that was admitted alongside the foolish doctor. 1 Like |

So sad. I dont think we have all the information on how the ebola virus is contracted. It seems the virus is far more infectious than the literatures suggests. From the accounts of victims so far, some contracted the disease even without having DIRECT contact with sick infected persons. I seems the virus is also airborne 4 Likes |

I very much doubt the Doctor knew he was treating Ebola until it was too late. |

The case of the American doctor who tested +ve to Ebola virus today in Liberia but never came in contact with or treated any patients with Ebola disease makes one wonder whether there are other possible means of contracting the disease other than body fluids of infected symptomatic patients. |

From the accounts of victims so far, some contracted the disease even without having DIRECT contact with sick infected persons. I seems the virus is also airborne Ebola 1976 and Marburg virus is not known to be airborne. So its safe to say this isn't the textbook virus we are dealing with. It has been artificially 'enhanced' for airborne transmission. A lot of people have come down with the virus without direct contact with a sick person. The latest is a US doctor not involved with ebola treatment in Liberia. Could he have contracted it from an asymptomatic colleague in form of droplet ? You should have seen the level of paranoia at GTBank today. People are afraid to even glance at each other let alone greet, even after handwashing and temprature screening. The CDC know more about transmission of the virus than they're admitting but withhold info for the sake of avoiding panic. |

I don't really understand what is actually happening, This Ebola of a virus cases seems like there is something behind it. Firstly, I heard it was an ECOWAS official from Liberia that brought the sickness to Lagos Nigeria. Now I am hearing again that it was another ECOWAS official that brought the sickness to PH Nigeria. I am so much confused, this seems like a well planned game. Somebody should tell us the truth |

Similarly, Olu-Ibukun made his way to the same region, as if to continue the journey his colleague failed to complete. Like two members of a track and field relay team. 2 Likes |

OP, I can't find anywhere in the OP where it's written that it's the wife of the doctor that died, but a patient in the same hospital that he died. |

pls any family that has a dead relative in UPTH mortuary should not go for the corpse now because all the corpses in UPTH mortuary are EBOLA POSITIVE. Hence forth don't attend any burial ceremony for your safety. To all those who live in or have been to Port Harcourt in the past 2 months. If you visited Samstel clinic, Rumuokoro, PH, or Good Heart Specialist hospital, Evo road, GRA within the last few weeks, you are kindly urged to report to the Rivers State Health Ministry IMMEDIATELY! A risk assessment would be conducted for you. In the interest of your family and for the sake of those you love please do not hide or live in fear or denial. God help us all. Please rebroadcast! The name of the hotel where the secret treatment was carried out for the diplomat is MANDATE HOTEL. In case u know anyone who's been there lately too. If you suspect you have come in contact with someone who has Ebola, PLEASE NOTE: Running to your village will not save you! It will rather ensure that you die and that you kill your relatives too. If you develop Ebola disease while hiding from quarantine, your story will come out eventually. Without good care, Ebola will kill you painfully. The good news is, the handling of reported Ebola cases in Nigeria is excellent. Ebola fatality rates in Nigeria are the lowest in the world right now. You have a good chance of staying alive if you seek help from the right authorities. Call 0800- EBOLA-HELP (0800-326524357) now. Please share with all your contact . 1 Like 2 Shares |
