Rivers state Commissioner of Health, Dr Sampson Parker who disclosed this Monday morning in Port Harcourt said the patient later tested negative after she went through treatment at the centre, ” I am cheerful today because we have successfully treated an Ebola patient from our centre. She was positive and treated. She is now negative and discharged to the community,” After much pressure from media men the Commissioner, Dr Parker confirmed that the patient who was treated and discharged is the sister of the late Dr Enemuo who took ill after the brother died. ” The sister of the late doctor is well and has been discharged. We should celebrate her. She nursed her brother when he was down. She is one person you can admit into your house now because she is fine. She will not give you Ebola. She is clear, she is immune and she cant have Ebola”, he said. Meantime, the Commissioner said an eighteen months old infant had been admitted at the treatment centre, adding that the child had not tested positive. “We have another admission, an infant, 18 months, is not yet tested”, he said. He said the Health Ministry would successfully establish contact with the 479 persons on its list for surveillance before the end of the day, adding that 94 percent of them had already been traced. The Commissioner, Dr Parker expressed the hope that by next week Ebola would be a thing of the past. “We need this week and next week to watch. “, he said.
