Demonic Oppression
Ray Comfort

Someone wrote to me recently who was having serious demonic oppression. He said that he was tormented day and night, saying, "I've had suicidal thoughts and depression and I want to kill myself." He said that he was born again last year, and "the Bible explained all these things that I had after receiving salvation in Christ! I had love, peace and joy unspeakable. Those days are gone. Now they are dark, and the light is so hard to see." My reply may be helpful to some...

Thank you for writing and sharing with me. I have been praying for you and I hope the following thoughts will help.

First, I would suggest that you go through your house or your apartment and make sure there is nothing that would be displeasing to God. I am speaking about idols, pornography, smutty books, rock music, or anything to do with the occult.

Second, search your own heart and make sure there is nothing that is offensive to God. I'm talking about bitterness, unforgiveness, jealousy, resentment, hurts, and especially a lack of honor toward your father or mother. If there is anything there, confess it and forsake it. The Bible says "give no place to the devil." If he has place, it's because you are giving it to him. You must shut the door on all sin.

The Bible also says to "submit to God, resist the devil, he will flee from you." So make sure you are totally submitted to God...that there is nothing in your heart or home that would be offensive to Him in the slightest.

Third, make sure you trust God with all of your heart. To not trust Him even slightly is to consider Him untrustworthy. If you truly trust Him, that will be evidenced by your peace and joy. Think of it like this. If you are in an elevator 80 stories up, you will have total peace if you have faith in the elevator. If you don't, you will have fear. The choice is yours. Trust God with all your heart and have peace and joy. Don't trust Him, and the result will be fear. It's that simple.

Get your eyes off yourself and get them onto others, especially when it comes to evangelism. People are going to Hell, and God has called you to witness to them. Do that, and I am sure your joy will be restored. See Psalm 51:12-13.

Make sure you are reading your Bible every day without fail. Don't go by your feelings. I never feel like reading my Bible. I just do it every day, and have done for over 40 years. It's just a matter of discipline. Read Psalm One and see if you can figure the fruit that comes from meditating on God's Word day and night.

Reject suicidal thoughts as you would reject adulterous thoughts. Whenever they come, pray a positive prayer of submission to God--crying out to Him for wisdom, a deep concern for the lost, a revelation of His love, and a great hunger for the Word. Create your own, write it down and then memorize it. Then say it out loud whenever suicidal thoughts come. In doing so you will turn a negative (thoughts of suicide), into a positive. That will cause the enemy to back off because he is causing you to pray every time he attacks you.

Read the above through a few times, and make sure you do what I've said. In the meanwhile, I will be praying for you.
