Four Reasons TV And DVD Will Go Into Extinction In Nigeria by ayodejy05(m): 3:59pm On Sep 09, 2014
I recently carried out a personal survey on how Nigerians are loyal to their TV and other multimedia set these days, and I found out that with time, people will no longer want to buy TV, home theatre and the likes. My reasons are as follows.

1. Virtually every youth including married women now watch movies on their mobile phones and tablets. In fact, it is only few that do watch on laptops. For instance, my sister has a lot of old and recent nollywood and ghollywood movies on her Galaxy S4. They keep her busy at her leisures and especially at night before sleeping. Her laptop is less useful to her anymore. Most of the videos I have on my blog were collected from her. I used my sister as an example but I have many friends and siblings both male and female that does this too; I included (lol).

2. The statistic of people downloading videos on my blog is very amazing. Can you imagine? I get an average of 300 downloads on a full video link converted for mobile phones (3gp and mp4) daily. Furthermore, most of the sources of IP were from blackberry, android tablets, and java devices while Blackberry tops the list (I guessed, it is because of enough data for download available to them).

3. Most people don't subscribe on their DSTV, MyTV, GoTV and the likes. Ask how did I know. I have gone to some people's house and I observed most of them have these things for decoration purpose or just for football purpose. Their children are no longer interested in them because they don't feel comfortable watching entertainment movies when their parents are there with them; majorly because of explicit scenes. So they prefer watching full explicit contents on their mobile gadgets and these are the reasons porns are booming these days.

4. Mobility and continuity is another great factor. You can take your favorite movies anywhere you go and you can continue your view whenever you wish to. In as much they are still intact on your mobile device. You cannot carry your TV, home theatre, or DVD all around and when electricity is taken by BEDC you cannot continue till they bring it back.

I personally spend few minutes with my TV and DVD while I spend hours on my mobile entertainment studio watching and listening to videos and music respectively.

I do not totally agree with you ... Most modern DVDs are used for more than just playing CD's. Most people have home theathre DVDs mostly to improve the sound quality of whatever is plugged to the DVD. Especially gamers they usually have high sound quality videos in the sitting room set up ( I know cos I have plenty gamer friends grin and how do you mean TV will become extinct ? As far as am concerned there's no one that doesn't use tv in this world every one does even if its not dztv or whatever they are using it for. Me personally I can't even remember the last time I watched dstv its just my mom and dad that still use it even my 12yr old brother is always on his phone playing games and videos. Tv has other uses apart from watch dstv and co. You can still plug your laptop to it and watch your recent movie, stream vidoes to it directly from your phone using chrome cast, browse on it and so on. As for those that don't want their laptops again maybe its cos they are satisfied with their tablets and smartphones to satisfy all their needs but I for one can't even go 6hrs without using my laptop that is my most precious gadGet

JIMMY1393 You re right. In as much as one does nt regular watch movies or play games on the TV all the time bt use phones, tabs etc to do so, TV is a necessity, cos it serves different purpurses like decoration, among others.

The Op also made some good points bt dats nt enough to make TV's go extinct rather wat u should say is dat watching of movies on TV's re declining.

U could entertain ur guest(s) with the TV. Part of why TV is necessary. You don't expect one to come to ur house and den u bring out ur pc, connect it to ur sound system and say oya start watching movies even though dats wat youth re up to dis days.

Good observation by OP. I think he's right on movie watching trend but to say that TV'S would become extinct is going too far. OP needs to consider the trend of tv's. ...which can now do the same as smart phones in accessing movies.
