You just might be a mosquitoes' favourite.

Wait. Just before you scream blue murder, allow me, guys, to show you how being a ladies man might, for the first time, not be to your advantage. (According to Dr. Jonathan Day, a medical expert at the University of Florida, only the female mosquitoes bite).

If you ever felt targeted by these winged creatures, it's not because you imagined it. It is because it is actually true.

Dr. Jonathan Day says "some people produce more of certain chemicals in their skin, and a few of those chemicals, like lactic acid, attracts mosquitoes." There is also evidence that people with the Blood type O attracts mosquitoes more than the other Blood types A or B.

Now, I bet that this is the one time you'd wish that God had created some switch to go with our Blood type so that you can switch it off during mosquito invasions. Sorry, no such luck.

It gets worse. Mosquitoes also use CO2 as their primary means of identifying bite targets. This is because all vertebrates produce carbon dioxide which makes it effortless for us to be easy objects of bloodsucking affection for our teeming population of mosquitoes.

But don't panic yet. We are not the only 'things' that emit CO2. Cars and trees also do. But the mosquitoes are not really as dumb as we would like to think they are, they have a secondary means of identifying which is tree and which is man. This is why you need to observe the following to help protect yourself.

1. Wear more of light outfits. Dark clothing is more attractive to mosquitoes.

2. Use protective clothing. This is not referring to those early 90's Tupac and Nelly 'baggy everything' kind of clothing but something that would at least cover a good percentage of your body would suffice.

3. Use a good fan. Mosquitoes usually feed at dawn and dusk when winds tend to die down and humidity rises. A good fan pointed in your general vicinity will do a good job of keeping them away.

While it is almost impossible to, altogether, avoid being bitten by mosquitoes, especially in a clime as ours, knowing the facts above can help you make a more informed decision as regards methods of reducing the bites to the barest minimum.

Malaria is not to be toyed with, and it may prevent you from being able to write that proposal, apply for that job, or just generally be as productive as you can be.

So click the share button to share with loved ones. Because you care for their productivity, their success. #Insidify

Die? Not exactly. I realise that your sarcasm might be borne out of this post being quite lengthy but then again, Malaria does kill people. So, no apologies.
