Who can answer this question? "What happens when an irresistible force encounters an immovable object.?" |

I think anyone who studied physics should be able to make an input to this. |

For those of you thinking there would be some sort of release of energy, in order for there to be a spectacular release of energy, your unstoppable force has to stop and your immovable object has to move. Since neither can happen, they don't interact in any way. You can't extract energy from a thing which cannot slow down, and cannot impart energy to a completely inert object. |

Ets simple and clear..the answer is Newton 1st law of Motion..states that if an object in the universe is at REST it wil continue to b at REST until an EXTERNAL FORCE is acted upon et..no mater hw immovable an obt z wen a greater or a v.powerful force acts on et ..it wld surly obey newton 1st law.. |

I think two things are bound to occur: 1) An explosive force, capable of destroying the two titans; or 2) A repulsive force, a kind of back-to-sender on the irresistible force, with none of the titans scorched. |

whatofyou: I think two things are bound to occur: i'l go with one. Buts its all abstract. |

Does the immovable mass has a mass, does the irresistible force equal to irr. mass X acc. If they do then I think the mass will move w.r.t to the amount of acceleration according to newton's first law of motion |

Fash20: Does the immovable mass has a mass, does the irresistible force equal to irr. mass X acc. If they do then I think the mass will move w.r.t to the amount of acceleration according to newton's first was of motionthis is a rational post, it's gotten some level of meaning |

no object is immovable, it depends on kind of force that act on it. so far u have made it clear that it is irressistable force, only two things will happen; (1) there will be a very big explosion which will lead to a transfar/loss of energy to sound, heat and others. (2) the immovable object must move ooo even if it is earth as a whole |

I believe by immovable the op means an object which is not necessarily immobile but rather stationary compared to the other object's speed. His use of the words irresistible and immovable are to emphasize the different velocities between the two objects perhaps. |

No such things exist that are irresistible or immovable...infact...for reality to be consistent, everything is in motion and also tends towards attraction/repulsion,from atoms,to electrons, mass, etc 3 Likes |

Let A = object Let B = force given that A is immovable and B is unstoppable/irresistable Recall, that newton first law of motion stated that A for any object is always movable by 'B' and B of any forces is either stoppable by A OR reduceable by that same A till stoppable. Line one and two contradicts newton first law of motion. So therefore it is not possible for line 1 and 2 to exist in real sense. |

It depends on what you call irresistable and immovable. But if i were to say,i'd say there would be an irresistable immovable force. |

Newton's 1st law of motion has done justise to this question Also no matter how immovable a body is,if it is encountered by a force greater than its weight, it will definitely move....it threshold weight first has to b surppased first for it to move. |

xkobans:op!! The answer to the question is extremely obvious! It is in fact in your question! What happens? The unstoppable force is not stopped. The immovable object is not moved. In other words, they will pass through each other!! |
