There is no gainsaying that most Nigerian politicians change political parties unrestrained, with only a handful of politicians remaining with their political parties for a reasonable length of time because of the ideology such parties profess, as contained in their manifesto.
Because of the reign of party harlotry in our political terrain, many people who occupy leadership positions are devoid of any political philosophy to propagate, but only regard identifying with political parties as means of acquiring political power for personal benefit. Likewise, political harlotry has caused many Nigerian electorates to be denied the opportunity of knowing, as well as supporting those politicians who harbour political ideologies favourable to them, during electioneering period.
The most proactive means through which party harlotry can be reduced in the Nigerian political circle, is that political harlotry should be made a punishable offence, and one of the requirements to ensure the continued existence of a political party, is that there should be annual report filed by leaders of political parties with the Independent National Electoral Commission of steps they have taken to propagate the ideologies contained in their respective manifestoes.
