The renewed intrest in the Nigeria Economy by the EU is commendable considering the strategic role of Nigeria to the development of the entire West African sub region. It's high time developed countries realize that the task towards a developed Africa is not only advantageous to Africans but to the developed countries as well. As noted in the article, it well help stem the tide of illegal immigrants to Europe. The 600 million euros investment even though not enough will still go a long way in fixing critical infrastructural facilities especially the power sector.
The government should back this up with massive support for our home industries in case of planned invasion of foreign companies into Nigeria.

The money will go back to the EU. I am sure there are strings attached like preference for EU power companies first before other companies. No one gives something totally free without expecting anything in return

You see, our highly skilled people will kill to get out of our country and go "make it" in the West - because our country remains in the stone age due to bad leadership. They're simply making the process easier for them. They money they are giving us will no doubt do us some good if they design and supervise projects themselves. If they give it to our leaders it will end up in foreign accounts and real property as usual. We are the worst dummies in the universe considering the kind of leadership we have. Remember our leaders don't come from space - they come from among us. Nigerians ought to be angry, very angry. But no, the next guy on the street is not looking to change the system but how to get in and join in the looting bazaar that is governance in Nigeria. We are dummies - no two ways about it.

What is the problem with that - or is there something I'm missing? They're supposed to give you money and encourage you to go off and hire Chinese companies if there are European competitors?

This is how it works 20 experts a year(read spies) on a salary of 50000 euros taxable in their home countries = 1 million euros add first class travel wih European Airlines Hotel stay in Sheraton etc . Risk assessment ,consultancy contracts, legal contracts, Insurance etc amounting to millions of Euros than NEVER enters Nigeria add the cost of travel hotel etc of the delegation that came to make the "ANNOUNCEMENT" of GOOD NEWS and voila !! they have GIVEN us aid.

kahanma:

How do you call this colonization?
They are simply expanding their market force with respect to the crisis between Russia, the west and Europe.
Russia is also seriously thinking of diverting their market force from Europe to Latin America and Africa.
So I don't see anything like colonization there.

Speaking as an international business manager grin
U r right! These EU guys and their sinister motives, they are not relanting. They are really eyeing Nigeria's market ,the next thing, interference in the policies and politics of this country! http://www.google.com/url?q=http:// www.thisdaylive.com/articles/nigeria-and-the-eu-west-africa-economic-agreement/176169/&sa=U&ei=tOwdVLfxMZaeyAS7lwE&ved=0CBwQFjAD&usg=AFQjCNGzfL-J38m9C0kPFaS70G-o4UYJhw..... They won't give this if they don't expect something in return. They really want to be major players in nigeria's market. Any time we don't do their bidding, they will slap sanctions on us! http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.cnbcafrica.com/news/western-africa/2014/04/01/nigeria-rejects-eu-partnership/&sa=U&ei=tOwdVLfxMZaeyAS7lwE&ved=0CBkQFjAB&usg=AFQjCNFz0PLZSWFf2CXBKJ7TPMmnH1uu-g
