Kidnapped Chibok Girls Released by firstafricanews: 5:37pm On Sep 23, 2014
After over 160 days in captivity, some of the 219 schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, have been released by the Boko Haram, FirstAfricaNews has learnt.

While a source said about 50 of them were released in a swap deal in two lorries, the Chairman, Chibok Local government Council, Mr. Bana Lawan, said on Wednesday that four of the girls fell ill and were released by their captors.

Lawan gave the information in Abuja at a one-day stakeholders’ meeting for validation of draft humanitarian response plan for the abducted girls.

The meeting was organised by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
He said the girls were released on Tuesday to bring the number of those that had regained their freedom to 57.

Lawan commended Nigerians for showing concern and support for Chibok people, saying the support had restored the hope and aspiration of the people for the return of peace to the community.

He also praised the Federal Government’s prompt intervention through the provision of relief items for the people.

He urged the government to resuscitate the facilities destroyed by the insurgents and improve security in the affected school to boost the morale of the students.

Lawan explained that boys were encouraged to attend GGSS in Chibok because of the lack of education facilities in the area and appealed for the construction of boys’ hostels in the school.

He said the construction of the hostels would reduce the hardship faced by the students, who attended school from afar.
When contacted the leader of the Chibok community that met with President Goodluck Jonathan in the villa last month, Dr. Bitrus Pogu said the community is yet to be officially informed about the schoolgirls release.

News that Boko Haram agreed to release the abducted 219 Chibok girls if the Federal Government will simultaneously set free its 18 key commanders has been on the airwaves in the last couple of weeks.
The two parties have asked their representatives to go back to their leaders on the new swap deal proposal.

Prior to the latest agreement at the talks in Abuja, which was witnessed by some officials of the International Committee of the Red Cross(ICRC), Boko Haram had insisted on a piecemeal release of the girls, with priority given to 30 married Christians among them.

The Federal Government also offered to release six of the 18 sect leaders in detention.

The two sides maintained a parallel stand until they met again in Abuja at a session facilitated by the President, Civil Rights Congress (CRC), Comrade Shehu Sani.

What if they capture 13 girls tomorrow in Biu,will the strategy be to exchange a sect commander in February?

Is it affirmative that bh cannot storm any village in d north and carry out a successful abduction anymore?

Will there be a massive showdown in sambisa ASAP before new human shields are abducted?

Hope the new shekau has not just been exchanged?

Welcoming news but couldn't stop these questions from flashing through my mind.
