Album Review: Wizkid Ayo (joy) by Kakakino(m): 1:46pm On Sep 24, 2014

Artist: Wizkid
Album Title: Ayo
Label: Empire Mates Entertainment
Release Date: September 17, 2014

A week ago saw the early release of Wizkid‘s foreseen sophomore album; a 19 track discharge, a third of which comprises of tunes that have been out for at any rate a quarter. Most listeners would have heard those tunes before, as being what is indicated they interfere with the proposed stream of the album.

Show You The Money, (a track that sees Wizkid’s best conveyance for some time), is followed by In My Bed. The second half of this tune sounds precisely like the previously stated track, down to the song he used. Mummy Mi is a fair track all alone, however fella drops a line to his mother on practically every other tune on the album. Ojuelegba is the champion track on the album, a chilled mid-beat generation by Starboy’s in-house team, Legendury Beatz. This track is a joy, it samples Leon Haywood’s I want a Do Something Freaky To You, a joint initially inspected on Nuthin However A G Thang by Dre, which serves to make it additionally engaging, I’ll be playing this song for while. Kind of Love, this tune is tormented by the same issue others are, apathetic melody composing, the song is satisfying enough yet in the event that just more exertion was put into making the song in its sum.

The second third of the album has one and only pre-released track, On Top Your Matter, this tune was sweet when it was discharged at the top of the year, it remains so. Seyi Shay and Akon are offered on diverse tracks, on both tunes Wizkid was disappointing, on In Love, he couldn’t match the vocal energy of Seyi Shay nor would he be able to climb to Akon’s simple conveyance on For You; that said, For You is a melody I’ll be playing once more.

Dutty Whine featuring Bank W. This song is terrible, there may be a chance that it bangs in the club because when the Remy’s in the system every song sounds great, but in the cold light of day, this song is really bad. The following track, Ki Lo Fe, I skipped as well, it cleared out such a great amount to be fancied. Omalicha, another lazy tune, skip. Bombay featuring Phyno, its okay as club songs rock. One Question featuring Yemi Sax is lovely; the kinda song that makes the sun not as hot as it feels. I also like Celebrate. After this song, Joy is the following track worth looking at; yet another ode to his mother, all alone, no issue yet on a album where Mama Ayo is yelled out no less than 6 times, with 2 tunes committed to her, it somewhat much. The outside coordinated efforts, Akon aside, did nothing to upgrade the tracks they were on. Tyga and Wale both called in their verses; nothing remotely huge here.

The glaring thing here is that there is no all-encompassing theme for the album. The decision of songs and their course of action is not what one would expect; an excess of tunes sound the same or like they have a place on a giveaway project.

There is scarcely anything of the man Wizkid on this album. The workmanship is tasteless, its conveyance to a great extent ace forma, tedious verses, unoriginal riffs, etcetera. Ojuelegba is hot in light of the fact that it weds an alleviating mid rhythm beat with a flash of his backstory, same tries for Ayo. On the off chance that life span is a worry of the artist’s then his pen diversion needs to enhance markedly. It insufficient to make club bangers where the thrashed makes for his lyrics’ lacks. An album should be adaptable art that fits temperaments and circumstances; that can’t be said of this work.

Of the new material, just three songs are convincing enough to warrant returning to: Ojuelegba, For You and Celebrate. The album depends excessively intensely on the recognition of the old joints to prop it up, thus it misses the mark.

This album is rated 4.5 over 10
