the negative effect outweighs the positive effect( if there is none), apart from damaging d environment phsically, d odour is another. den d main part is transmission of infections, mechanical vectors like houseflies pech on it and den transmit cholera( which is a public health important disease), typhoid e.t.c to worm infestations via piercing d skim e.g d hookworms- necarto americanus, ankylostomiasis. it is so unhygienic even travellers do it along d road. overpopulation is also a contributory factor. a community should be encouraged to have at least a ventilation improved pit latrine which is different from d other pit latrines.
