Last week was one of celebration for a ton of celebrities in Venice, and a time of mourning for ladies around the globe — George Clooney got married!

We all thought the silver fox was destined for eternal bachelorhood, but he indeed got wifed up in Italy. Now, before you go hating on the new Mrs. Clooney, you should probably know a few things about Amal Alamuddin.

You might find it surprisingly hard to dislike her, or you can at least embrace that whole "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" thing.

1. She has brains.
She's a London-based lawyer who specializes in international law, criminal law, human rights, and other important things. She graduated from Oxford, then went on to get her law degree from the New York University School of Law, where she received a fancy award for excellence. She currently works at Doughty Street Chambers.

2. She also has beauty.[/b]
Clooney's girlfriends are typically gorgeous, and Alamuddin is no exception. She also has amazing hair and style.

3. She's 36.
The future Mrs. Clooney was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1978 and grew up in London. She's 17 years younger than the actor, if you're having trouble with that math.

4. She speaks three languages.
Alamuddin is fluent in Arabic, English, and French. She apparently doesn't speak Italian (at least fluently), but we imagine it's only a matter of time — since Clooney has a mansion on Lake Como and all.

5. She's been dating Clooney for a year.
The pair first stepped out together in London in October 2013, then they had dinner at the White House a few months later, then they went on an epic vacation together, then they got engaged in April. The rest is pretty much history.
