Igbo Leaders Attack Okorocha For Donating 2m To Converts To Islam by Abdulsalam20(m): 11:13pm On Sep 30, 2014 |
pls mod u can move it tothe right section if this section is wrong.....i'm in doubt if it should bbe in politics or religion Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has come under intense attack from Imo leaders for allegedly distributing N2million to Igbo youths who converted to Islam. Also former Abia State governor, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, was reported to have donated N1 million to the converts. The event took place at Abuja National Mosque last Saturday. The new converts include 17 Igbo aged between 25 and 35 years. But Emeka Obasi, media assistant to chief Kalu told Hallmark that there was no such donation from his boss. He stressed that Kalu was not at the event and was not represented either. However, concerned Igbo leaders said that Kalu’s antecedents, especially considering his love for Northerners could drive him into such donation. They recalled how Kalu during his reign as governor of Abia State built and donated a mosque to Muslims in the state. The mosque which was located at Eket Street, Umuahia according to Kalu was built from his pocket. However, for Okorocha who allegedly doled out N2m of state funds to support the Muslims converts, his action did not come as a surprise to watchers. Those who have followed the governor’s leadership since his assumption of office on 29th May, 2011 will attest to his affinity to Islam in a Christian state. He panders to the wishes and dictates of Islam even as a Christian faithful. In an interview with Hallmark, Mike Ahamba (SAN) described Okorocha as a man without a clear vision or direction in governance. According to Ahamba “Governor Okorocha’s administration in Imo State so far is likened to a man who never expected to be a traditional ruler and circumstances made him one, he is not prepared, he lacks direction and vision. This is the case of Okorocha,” he said. On the issue of the Okorocha’s alleged moves to Islamized the state, Ahamba said: “I have heard the rumour just like other patriotic citizens of the state, but if that is true, it will be the Governor’s another impossible mission. When you look out the designs of most of his projects especially the roundabouts, litany of his trusted allies, the city gates and the Ecumenical Centre in Government House, you may tend to believe the rumour.” In his reaction the President Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Imo State Chapter, Bishop Stamford Nworgu, said, “I see this as an allegation to blackmail the Governor. No leader worth his salt can ever mention Islamic religion in Imo State considering the dogmatic approach of the people to Christian faith but I know the Governor has so many Moslem friends and even in other religions.” Nworgu however re-assured that in case if the rumour turned out to be true, the Christian community in the state will vehemently resist it, noting that his leadership is carefully watching the Governor and his administration’s penchant for Muslim activities. |

Well my experience is that people from that part of Nigeria are amongst the most ignorant about Islam, they call mosques #Hausachurch which is a clear indication that they know next-to-nothing about Islam. Hence, this reaction to the governor's donation is more than expected. 1 Like 1 Share |
