NFF Election: How Delegates Strategise by Kingspin(m): 12:08am On Oct 01, 2014
WARRI- There was a mild drama that played out at the Golden Tulip Hotel, venue of the elective Congress of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) which took place in Warri Delta State on September 30.
Even as some delegates, observers and the media were all ready for the exercise earlier scheduled to start by 10. am, the Congress was not called to order until 12.55 pm.
Checks by Sports Vanguard revealed that apart from the alleged invitation of the Electoral Committee Chairman, Samson Ebohme by security operatives, the delegates had some serious issues they insisted in sorting out before the exercise could begin.
It was discovered that due to the provisions of the NFF Statutes, any zone that produced the president will not have another member on the 15- man executive committee.
To this effect it was further gathered that most of the zones were lobbying to ensure that their candidates who were running for the position of president lost so as to pave way for them to have two representatives.
Some of the delegate from across the zones whose opposition to the candidacy of the presidential candidates from their zones was based on this calculation told our reporter in confidence that already the zones have shared the tenure for the states in the zones.
