Pakistani Taliban splinter group claims it has capacity to strike within Britain if its warnings are ignored.
Jamaat ul Ahrar, the Pakistani Taliban faction that broke off from the core Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan earlier this month has warned the British government to treat Muslims “with great care and respect,” threatening the security of British nationals if their caution is not heeded.

Ahrar was reacting to the arrest of radical cleric Anjem Choudary, who was released on bail on Friday—a day after he and eight others were arrested in an investigation into a banned extremist group. British police said the arrests were part of an investigation into Al-Muhajiroun, a banned extremist group co-founded by Choudary, a Briton of Pakistani heritage.

Ehsanullah Ehsan, the spokesman for Jamaat ul Ahrar, rubbished the British police’s claims. “We all know Choudary only calls on humanity to live by shariah [Islamic law], which is the law and the way of life designated by the creator of mankind, Allah,” said Ehsan. “Calling for shariah is not terrorism, rather it is the greatest service to mankind.”

Ehsan said British politicians were “some of the worst mischief-makers and enemies of mankind,” adding, “They don’t want to see the people of the world enjoying justice and prosperity under shariah.” He claimed these “thugs” wanted to keep people terrorized through the threat of war, sanctions and poverty. “We know very well who the real terrorists are. The world can’t be fooled by British politicians crying wolf when they are wolves themselves,” said Ehsan.

The Ahrar spokesman said the British government should take care in its dealings with Muslims. “At the moment our priority is to fight against your poodles of Pakistan Army but make no mistake, we do have the capability to strike inside your homeland,” he said, adding, “[If] you keep on bothering our Muslim brothers and sisters in Britain, you’ll only be jeopardizing the security of your citizens [both] at home and here in Pakistan and Afghanistan.”
