Hello Nairalanders,
How long will a goat take to attain mature weight when fed mainly grass?

2-3 yrs
Re: Goat Farming Question by felixzo1(m): 8:50am On Oct 03, 2014
2 to 3 but still depends on breed and free range or stall feeding

It requires a lot of patience and it's better when combined with faster biznesses. Thanks very much.

The local breed will be a very bad business to venture into
except you leave them to be eating on their own
which put them at risk of being stolen.
I think cow or ram/sheep is better (if you can get good breed)

Thanks for the tip. If I'd consider goas, it would have to be a cross between boer and WAD.

nice idea bro. there was this goat I saw in Ghana early this year, like 2½ feet tall and robust
If not for border wahala, I could have brought a male to Nigeria

A solution to that would be importing the semen instead.

Can one cage them for rearing?because it's not advisable to due free range due to there being stubborn and the level of damage they cause....

@Farmtech, please am sorry to derail a little, I know this is a thread for goat but I want to know if you improvised your poultry feeds like grinding corn and soya beans. Please help as am looking for a way to minimise cost. Thank you

I have that in mind. But I buy commercial feed for now - vital feed.
