Jordan descended the staircase around past eleven. He walked pass the living room to the dining room and found Maureen almost through with her food. Shan came in and smiled at him
'Where is Leila?'
'She is sleeping'
He sat down and told Shan to fry some eggs for him as he wanted to take tea and bread. She returned a few minutes later with the fried eggs.
'what did you eat?'
'Yam and egg'
'Shan, you are loosing weight and I don't like it. Come join me let's drink this tea. You know you need milk'
Shan didn't argue. She sat down next to him and together ate. Like friends, they ate the egg from the same plate.
'Uncle Jo, why did father stopped us from going to school today? I asked Ta she said to ask you'
'You know what Shan?,eat, you are now getting too thin for my liking'
'You know I'm studying hard for my WAEC'
'Tara is complaining that you study a little too hard. You hardly even have time for her'
'You promised to send me abroad for my tertiary education if I pass my exams. I don't want to loose that chance'
'Oh, Shan, just say you can't wait to be rid of us'
'No uncle Jo, you know I love you all so much but I want to be alone for once. You and Tara are always looking out for me like mother hen. I need to be able to live by myself'
'So you are running?'
'Don't forget that you promised me Harvard university'
'And don't forget that I said Tara must give her consent'
'She will'
'You don't sound certain'
'Tara is just scared of missing me uncle Jo. I am no longer twelve. I am seventeen and can take care of me'
Maureen, who had been listening to them got angry. How can Shan who was a no body have this kind of attention from Jordan.
'By the way, where is Ta?'
'She should be sleeping. I don't want her stressed up'
'Your wife is simply being lazy', Maureen put in.
'Ta, is not lazy, she is ill', Shan defended
'Really? Are you that naive? She just had s.x'
'Shan looked uncomfortably at Jordan. She was at a lost what to say or how to react.
'With her husband', Jordan said, lazily.
'I can perform better in bed than that silly wife of yours'
Jordan stood up. He banged his fist on the table. His eyes turned red in anger.
'Never you call my wife names. You are merely a guest here. Don't get too comfortable'
Maureen lifted her head. She wondered why he was getting angry, can't he see that she loved him to distraction? Tara is even short.
She saw Mich came down the stairs.
'Where are you going Mich?', Jordan asked

'The hospital. Joel might be awake now. He needs me there'
'Are you out of your mind? Have you eaten?'
'I'm not hungry'
'You are not going Mich, its dangerous and I have something important to show you'
'What is it?'
'He took her upstairs, disappeared for a few minutes and came back with a disc.
'I want you to eat first'
So she drank tea and then Jordan sat next to her on the bed.
'Mich, I want you to watch this'
'What is it?'
'Find out for yourself. Lock the door while watching it. I will be back in fifteen minutes'
'Let's watch it together'
'No'
'I've you watched it already?'
'No, I couldn't'
'Why?'
'Find out for yourself'
He left the room. Mich locked her door, and inserted the disc in her laptop. What she saw surprise her.
'Shadrach?', she said to herself quietly.
