If I had to pick one, I would make the same choice. wink

Why haven't you read "A Thing Around Your Neck?" and "Americanah"?
Both really worth reading but I enjoyed the first one even more. wink

I need to cop those from Amazon.

Have you read the secret lives of baba segi's wives by Lola shoneyin and everything good will come by sefi atta.?

U mean D narrator voice "kambilla's voice"? It was of a frightened little girl oh! I felt for her! I don't recall any amiable event that happened in the book sha.
No. Chimamanda's voice. She's the one who infuses her characters with personalities of her choice, so it's basically her voice still.
I could a read a book by her and recognise it as one of hers without seeing her signature. That's what a voice does.

3 people recommending short stories now.
I may try out Amanda's 'the thing around your neck' just to be sure i'm not missing out on anything but i really doubt i'll be converted. I love the heightened anticipation, suspense and adrenaline surge a few hundred pages can create too much. grin grin
Btw, you read 'The Famished Road' by Ben Okri?
Yeah, short stories leave you hanging. At least you get to fill the blanks yourself.....in a very frustrating way.

Nope. I have looked for that book, don't know why my bookshop guy doesn't have it still.

In other words, there are two authors: The original one and the reader. Hmmm.

I did the same too with no success until a friend borrowed an aged copy from a public library. Super brown, super used and super fragile. grin grin
I came across a 'free' pdf copy much later. I don't know if i still have it.
Lmao! grin I picked one such book from a roadside vendor.

Never been able to wrap my head around ebooks. Takes a lot my more to read and gives me a nasty headache.

Do you ever go back to reading classic novels?

Honestly, It's frustrating but when you've searched the ends of the earth for a particular novel even if it is written on papyrus you'll settle. grin
I wasn't a fan of e-books until it dawned on me that i had very few options in that regard. I'm slower and i do get dry eyes once in a while but i'm getting used to them.

I only read classic novels on recommendation. I always think it'll have something to do with princes and knights and damsels in distress. Sentimental much. grin

then u will like IvanHoe

I had it on paperback long ago

The first is by Charles Dickens.

1984, yeah it did. Orwell was thinking about the soviet union when that book was written, though it wasn't published the same year and garnered a lot of criticisms (for obvious reasons). This writer sure loves satires.
Re: NL Husband Material by pickabeau1: 12:05am On Oct 17, 2014

Frankenstein
Dracula
I think she means the Illiad as the Odyssey is a part of the Illiad
