No First Class Mentality, Faculty Of Law As Acase Study (oouý by Nobody: 11:25am On Oct 25, 2014 |
Since the establishment of faculty of law (Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye) in the early 80s, no first class student has ever been produced. The reason best known to them (the school and/or the faculty). Therefore, second class upper has become the 'peak', 'zenit', for any law student in oou. It has systematically and conventionally become our own 'first class', when someone from another school is saying we had 3(three) first class students this year, our 'mental system', on 'auto' interprets it to 2nd class upper. I still don't understand, why my faculty, still don't want to produce any first class Hons, even when it is obvious. In my own opinion, if our faculty that is more than 30 years old have not produced a first class student by now, then there is a problem and a state of emergency should be declared, an 'adhoc' committee set up to look into the problem and proffer solution(s). You can't tell me that students that truly deserve 1st class Hons has never walked through that faculty. It is either our system has failed or we don't have a system in the first place. This problem got to the 'peak' just recently when someone who graduated with second class lower in my faculty went to the law school and graduated with first class. I want to use this medium to with due respect appeal to the law faculty OOU to give first class Hons to deserving students and not sniff them out to 2nd class upper. However, there are few students(I met on campus then) who tried to get close to 'the first class mark' people like Femi Gbede(who obviously is a first class student), Dayo 'candle', and Opeyemi Dada, as she then was (who later had 1st class at the law school), but couldn't get it. Obviously, with the state of my GP now, if I continue to have 'A5' from now till eternity, I can't (mathematically speaking) get to the first class mark, (but I am still available for a first class miracle lolz). Onakoya would have gotten it, I guess he just did not want it, but that guy is a first class student/candidate anytime, anyday. Aminat also is a first class potential. People like Gold, Ayo 'Bajo and Ayooluwa(silent killers), are people I respect so much. John, that guy, if not because of his result in 100 level, would almost be in 1st class now, cause I am sure there will be more than enough encouragement for him. There are so many others who are trying their best(s) too in my class. I pray God crown all our efforts(first class, second class (upper and lower), third class, pass) with grace and favor. Amen However, I or my classmates are not the reason I am writing this piece. The reason I am writing this is to appreciate all my junior colleagues who are all trying their best to reach the first class mark and break that record (I want to encourage them because this young minds still have better chance of breaking that record). These guys have given, and are still giving their best into becoming the best in their respective levels. Though, the university is not a 'competition ground', but you must allow others to challenge you. and all this people have challenged me and also themselves. Priscilla (400L), mr nwodo(400l), Olumide(200l), iyanu (200l), kasali (300l), biggie (300l), milinda(400l), sandra(diploma/degree), and all other 4pointers in that faculty that their names aren't here. I just felt I should use this (exam) period to appreciate you all and tell you that people are really looking up to you. Please don't disappoint us, work harder, don't be distracted in anyway. You can still break this record and make us proud. You are all our heroes. Remember, hard work pays. To others who are also trying their best, but are not there yet, God will take you to where you belong. I pray that at the end of the day, we will all become 'what' God wants us to be: THE BEST. Thanks and God bless you all. |
