The 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup takes place from June 6 through July 5 in six Canadian cities of Winnipeg, Vancouver, Edmonton, Ottawa, Moncton, and Montreal. For the first time ever, there would be 24 teams taking part in the competition- an increase of 8, from the last edition in Germany (2011) which featured 16 teams.

The first 2 editions in China (1991) and Sweden (1995) featured 12 teams. The next tournaments in the USA (1999), USA (2003), China (2007), and Germany (2011), features 16 teams.

For the first time ever, each of the 24 teams would have to name 23-woman squads for the 2015 edition.

The final draw will take place on Saturday, December 6th.

So far, 22 teams have booked their places at next Summer's World Cup. They are:

Host Country- Canada

CAF - Nigeria, Cameroon, Cote D' Ivoire.

AFC- Japan, Australia, Korea Republic, China, Thailand.

UEFA- Spain, England, France, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany,

CONCACAF- USA, Costa Rica, Mexico, (?)

CONMEBOL- Brazil, Colombia, (?)

Oceania- New Zealand

The last 2 spots will be decided by November, and early December. In the UEFA zone, one of The Netherlands, Italy, Ukraine and Scotland would pick up the last European slot; whilst a 2-legged playoff between Ecuador and Trinidad and Tobago will decide who picks the other WC spot.

Facts:

-Germany's Birgit Prinz, at 18 years old, is the youngest player to appear in a WWC final. She achieved the milestone while playing in the 1995 final for Germany against Norway.

-The 1999 final between the USA and China PR, is the most attended women's football match in history. More than 90,000 fans flocked to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena to watch the game. That match is also the most attended women's sports event in history. Furthermore, it is also the most watched women's football match in the US: 18 million viewers (11% of US households with a TV set) watched the game on the American network, ABC.

-The Super Falcons are the only African team to have reached the knockout stages of a WWC. They did so in 1999.

-The 1999 edition in the USA is the most attended FIFA Women's World Cup. A total of 1,194, 215 fans flocked to the 7 stadia to watch the matches.
