Ah, I see where you went wrong.
You say the Internet has made people better informed. Of course! I said as much myself, and I assure you Soyinka agrees.

"Next time", You have to try harder to understand a topic before plunging into the fray. Soyinka was speaking specifically about SCHOLARSHIP. Being informed is one thing (I bet most kids know what Beyonce did last night, or who ISIS beheaded today), but being able to think critically, produce original ideas, and present those logically is another kettle of fish entirely. That is what Soyinka is talking about. Hope you've seen the light now?

Professor Femi i am yet to see any light!!! Think critically, produce original opines and present those logically you said? Professor PN Okeke from Physics and Astronomy has written so many books not to mention other Professors from Faculty of Engineering, have they been able to "think critically, produce original ideas and used those opines to invent anything - cars, handset, i am even going too far - toothbrush or toothpick?

Professor Femi, if reading and cramming Matlab and C++ hard copy would make Nigeria students scholars, why Profs like you and your ilk have not knock Zuckerberg, Steve Job et al off their feet.....Nigeria students, academians and so-called "scholars" cramming hard copies written by theraja, stroud since 1855AD without inventing " NOTHING!!!" and you call that produce original ideas? SMH

Yeah,ikr...
I get your point
Not all foreigners read and not all Nigerians do not read
But yet, our reading culture is appalling undecided

It seems so because they dictate the events while we play along. Until we also determine the events and record them, then we shall know if they like to read always or rather if their reading culture is appaling. How many of them read Nigerian books
