The Federal Road Safety Corps has set June 1st, 2015, for the implementation of speed limit devices on private and commercial vehicles plying Nigerian road‎s.

Speaking at a sensitisation forum for the implementation of the speed limit device in Nigeria, with the theme: ‘the benefits of speed limiting devices in transport management’ in Abuja on Tuesday, the corps marshal of the FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi about 48.05 per cent of road crashes this year was caused by over speeding and hence, the need for the device.

He also noted that all vehicle users and drivers are expected to get the devices fixed before the June 1st deadline as defaulters ‎will have their cars impounded and charged to court for violation.

Oyoyemi was also quick to not that the FRSC does not sell nor fix the devices, rather it is responsible checking and ensuring that all vehicles comply to the deadline and urged motorists to visit the Vehicle Inspectorate Office and get their cars fixed.

While delivering his key note address, the minister of works, Arc. Mike Onolememen said “as we all know, over-speeding is the root of most road crashes in Nigeria, with colossal loss in human life and property.”

Onolememen further noted that in order ‎to reduce crashes and the resulting fatalities on our roads, it has become necessary to put in place an effective speed management programme such as speed zoning and speed limits, changing behaviour and public education, engineering treatment, speed limiting technology; as recommended by the World Health Orgainisation.

Also, the secretary to the federal government, Anyim Pius Anyim lamented the increase in road crashes as a result of ‎speed, and pledged government’s support to reducing road crashes; urging all stakeholders to install speed limit in order to secure lives and provide sfatey on Nigeria roads.

Can't they see those governors convoys, politicians and their convoys, political parties convoys, bank bullion vans, royal personalities convoys, army, police etc who speed and drive recklessly to install that rubbish for them?

No be if I gree give them my car to install shy!t or stop and let them search if its installed in my car?
The last time I checked, Naija guys no dey carry last. Even if they install the shy!t, we must find way to bypass or breach its function.

Let's see how far they take this.

FRSC chasing shadows and leaving substance since 89BC.
