Chronicles Of An African Pikin by Macknuel(m): 5:41pm On Nov 21, 2014
It was 10:45pm. The shops had closed and the street was silent. PHCN had struck and it was dark. The night breeze played gently
across the countryside. The sky was starless and void. Even the moon had receded behind the dark clouds. The street was empty and lifeless. Still I walked on
towards my destination. Occasionally, I stopped and turned to see if I was being followed.

A streak of lightening suddenly flashed across the night sky. Seconds later, the grumbling thunder played its loud drum
causing a reverbrating echo. From a distance, an owl hooted. Shivers ran down my spine. Trepidation and apprehension made me quicken my steps. I clutched the
bag ever tightly. Soon, it was just 2 buildings to my destination. Suddenly, a loud husky voice spoke from behind me. Just 2 words. "Guy, show."

SURREAL

The night was as dark as charcoal. The
chilly evening wind swept across the
landscape. The darkness was so thick that
one could touch it. Yet, the full moon
mysteriously shone overhead. The distant
sound of car horns and screeching tires
from the overhead bridge jarred Jessica
back to her senses. She suddenly began to
wonder why she was alone in the dark
alley. No one was in sight. No lights. No
sound. Just her. She started to walk down
the alley.

As she walked further down the alley, she
felt the presence of another being behind
her. The footsteps behind her drew closer
with every step she took. Jessica froze and
turned her neck stiffly to see what was
following her. Hello. She listened as her
single word ricocheted off the alley walls.
No reply.
She continued her journey down the alley.

The faster Jessica walked, the faster the
footsteps came. Fear gripped her and she
broke into a run. She could still hear the
footsteps running behind her. Then she
came to the end of the alley. It was an
abandoned quarry. There she was, trapped
between an abandoned pit and her
invisible assailant. But the footsteps had
stopped. She no longer felt like she was
being followed.

Her gaze was fixed on the pit in front of
her. Then she saw it. A hand. A single hand
rose from the pit. The hand was covered in
dirt, bits of flesh hung unto the bone. The
bones of the fingers were visible. Then a
second hand surfaced. This one had no
flesh on it. It was just a skeleton. The foul
stench that hit Jessica's nostrils made her
nauseous. She suddenly began to back
away from the hands.

Then the creature climbed out of the pit.
The strong smell it emitted was spread
abroad by the wind. Its full shape was
hidden in the dim light. It staggered
towards Jessica as she backed away. As it
drew closer, Jessica could make out the
features of the creature. It was wearing a
moth eaten garment. Its flesh was peeling
from the body. One of its eyes was missing
from the socket. The other one was
swollen and almost falling out. It had only a
handful of hair on its head. The closer it
drew to her, the more flesh dropped from
it and the more Jessica backed away. Until
she stumbled and fell.
The creature was suddenly on her. Its long,
distended digits reached out to grab her.
Her throat suddenly felt dry, her voice was
gone and she couldnt cry for help. She saw
its face up close now. It was the man she
killed and buried last week. She knew this
was the end for her. Then the creature
grabbed her head........

Jessica woke up thrashing around on her
hospital bed. She was very hot and covered
in sweat. Her latest nightmare was one of
the many she had experienced in just two
days.
