In our environment, people with cancer present in hospitals late, after employing all sorts of unorthodox treatments.
By the time they get to the hospital, it may be too late.
Public awareness, massive screening programs, and early presentation are very vital.
Don't use local herbs to treat suspicious ans undiagnosed ailments!
Don't listen to friends and family who tell you it is nothing!
Ladies, examine your bosoms frequently!
Don't let a part of your body take over the rest.

A cancer is a malignant neoplasm,.If it is benign, it is a tumour. So, there's no such thing as "malignant cancer"-it is tautology.
Cancers can be cured, if detected very early. However, this is usually difficult, as the cancer would've spread by the time the person decides to seek medical treatment, no thanks to superstitious beliefs and unorthodox treatment.

If he was cured of cancer let him acknowledge that it is the grace of God by being a statesman and stop being partisan.

Thank God for wole Soyinka's life. My own father has survived cancer twice. First was cancer of the intestine & the last (hopefully) was prostate cancer. He is lucky and has abundance of God's grace.

The key to battling cancer successfully is
early detection/diagnosis.

One thing that surprises me about Soyinka which defies popular belief is that while others see water as having no enemy, he is not that friendly with it. Those that are close to him can testify that red wine is his water.

Clone2020:
I'm glad that he wasn't egotistical enough to think he can defy death like late apple CEO Steve Jobs who tought he can defeat cancer with an holistic approach. Nigerian professionals in the diaspora are not obligated on anyway to serve their country, we need to stop thinking they owe Nigeria anything. Why should those 220 oncologists who are making well over $350,000 a year, and practicing in facilities where they have the latest cancer screening equipments, move back to a defunct healthcare system in Nigeria? A country where patients are sometimes asked to buy fuel for the generator that will power the hospital while they are in the operating room or power the incumators of newly born infants in the neonatal intensive care unit just to name a few? It is the responsibility of the government to fix the healthcare system by providing funds for 21st century hospitals with the latest in biotech and pharmaceuticals, lay the ground work and u will see world renowned specialists flocking into Nigeria to render their services.
You didn't make any sense at all. He said they were interested in coming back to Nigeria and not that they were being compelled or under any obligation to come back.

Btw, the bible says my people perish because the lack knowledge. We can obviously see the difference btw this man (Soyinka) and others who is dead due to the same ailment.
