1. I AND THE DEAD MAN From the sweet stupor of sleep I rose And made a new plan. Rised for a rinse to wash off the ghosts And I felt ike a new born baby man. I listened with joy to Gloria's throaty melodious laughs. I laughed at the thought of a sleeping lady laughing in her sleep, and laughed again and woke up Gloria with my lion man roar laughs. And I continued to make my plans. He never rised, Never rises I watched the sunlight and the sunrise, And the moonlight and the sunset And some stars set, And the singing wind And Gloria's skin. I watched the whitest snow And that Bieber show And laughed at Bhika's peace song And granny's frog pond, And Jennimma's gold crown And Habeeba's old gown. His sunlight was dark and his moonlight black, And he saw not anything other than this cushion pad, And himself and a lifeless body and seeing nothing And the flames of Hell or Heaven's Well. He saw not, Sees not Jennimma's crown Or Habeeba's gown Or Bhikha's song Or Granny's pond Or some white snow Or some Bieber's show but this Inside of a whale-like-coffin. But then, I made my plans but still wrote. I write of love found And love lost And a train's song And a jet's song And a wedding song And a funeral song And a peace song And a happy song And a sad song And a soldier's song. A hero's song And a villian's song And laughed at laykhorn's humor, When he said they were as good as Jackson's songs. I wrote of my countless sins And meaningless things And hopeless dreams. Of marrying MizMyColi Or becoming the next Nairaland king, And January and February and April And 2014 and 2015 and 3013 but not 3014 cos I died in 3013. He wrote not. He writes not, neither for love nor lust. He tried to raise his hand once. Heard a voice. But heard no one. He tried again but it didn't go up, Like it used to do when he was still twelve And alive and still young. He raised up again and cursed. He kicked the coffin, kicked and punched. But there was no sound,no punch. He shouted,he heard his voice. Hard, harsh, hoarse But then he heard no voice And laid there and saw no one. He was still the way he was. Lifeless, dead, better said than felt. Cos its incomprehensible. Stories feasible. Dead? State pitiful. But then, I wrote and felt For so many years. Old and frail, I needed some help To hold a pen Or visit the toilet So I wrote no more Of love or lust. Or some happy song Or some sad one. I wrote now, That youth was good. And stories of you. And wrote for long. And wrote no more. And one day, I wrote of death. My hands shook At the hold of the pen. And I waited for death. And stopped to feel myself. There was no hands or legs. Just the kafn* and thumps on my head. Sand, thump! Sand, thump! Ah! Was not I a great poet? No I wasn't no I am not. Not in death,I'm now his friend. Take a peek into Heaven's Well. Lay down dead, lifeless. Take another peek. Better felt than said. *kafn: shroud used by muslims to bury the dead in Ayamlaykorn 6 Likes 2 Shares |

YIN AND YANG Yang It starts like a thought, spreads likeness and fondness, sing songs of righteous melody And wraps in outrageous rhapsody. Yin It engulfs, Caging... singing all sorts of blasphemous melody, which breeds tragedy, that sprouts darkness and malady. Yin and Yang One soar like the Eagle, the other roar like the Lion. Both cuddle and caress the mind; deluding it from reason, which causes schism, creates the facade that enables its victims engage in restless charade. Yin and Yang Emotions engaging in endless battle Which causes restless shackle, embattling the mind, causing commotion that promotes the better emotion, Making it king of the ring. Yin and Yang Strangest of friends Best of enemies. Symbol of hope Beacon of destruction. Strength that yawns like the morning sun and weakness that mourn like the evening moon. Emotion of wanton ugliness and emotion of unparallel beauty. Yin and Yang Emotions spiraling out of control... 4 Likes 3 Shares |

3. VERTIGO In dreams, sound is a luxury Motion is commonplace And fights. Flight too Light is the carapace That separates reality from dreams Light and sound And that pinch Of awakening That feeling Of a scuba diver, who After wriggling And kicking, submerged Company to sharks and schools of Other complacent fish Emerges from the emerald And aquamarine Of the sea Onto terra firma, Back to Ludlum novels And the struggle to recover burnt identity; To harsh sunlight and ultraviolet rays Greenhouse gases Decibel-defying bomb blasts Traffic jams Love And hate. Music And poetry. Haranguing preachers Heart-thumping doubts of doomsday Back to hallucinations and delusions So much that you wonder, You ask If reality is a dream Within a dream Within a dream, So much that you long to escape Back into familiar resonating nightmares Back into the blankness of sleep, Unaware and safe. What happens to a dream deferred? 2 Likes 1 Share |

Treacherously came Big Joe Suddenly, friends became foes ************************* The time of Sam..... Sam was merciful, Food were plentiful, Our faces were joyful, kids were playful. ********************** Era of Big Joe...... 5. THE SIAMESE OF LIFE AND DEATH Alive, Living the life, Yearning to thrive, As the time goes by. * Death, An end to breath, The warrior's sword is sheath, The body is laid to rest. * His heart lives, The world feels, What a man who moves many hills. * Her cold skin, The world grieves, An Amazon is gone, we will forever miss. * His aura embraces, He is bathed with praises, What a man! Who takes sadness off faces. * Her hands were cushions, Her words were soothing, What a Lady! A second Theresa. * In all respect, He is full of hope, But he is imperfect, And steps on toes. Up and down, As the terrain of life goes, Dedicated to succeed, He moves with the flow, As long as there is life, There are dreams to dream. * As she lay gaunt, In the adorned coffin, Desolate, barren, silent and deserted. It is time to go, A gem is lowered below, Tears of sorrow, Are bound to flow. The hearts grieve, Why does she have to leave? Life and Death, The Siamese of nature. 2 Likes |

6. WHEN DARKNESS LOOMS Bright, scintillant, lambent, refulgent beam, Leaving trails of hope and sudden thrill. Young and old barefooted to the reddish stream, munching and tearing...Meats so grilled. Murk, dimness, dusk, gloomy darkness, The voice of pain rings across the streets. Agelong war against the voices of brightness, Hollow sound, unedible breath. Dawn is here, prayers made. Chants of praise, let the stages rage. Spirit filled, unmerrited grace. Joy and peace fills every space. Nightfall abides in a dark sewn gown. Families cluster, faces frown. The peach of death has been finally eaten. Two graves, once bitten. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

7. I ONCE WAS YOU In the heat of an angry afternoon, Your shrill voice would ring out Like a Spanish blade cutting the damp silence Into palatable slices. Keeping you still, The thirteenth labour of Heracles, A test of mama's resilience. I once was you, but I sit worn out by inactivity Ancient bones in achy gratitude. Who enjoys the burden of walking anyway? Now even the night air gangs up With the chirping crickets To make a fool of my aged voice box I wish they knew I once was you. In patient haste you would scurry Up the generous Udala tree Serving quick justice To stubborn fruits And eager playmates shouting directions. You stood, the leader of a pack Of little wolves. I once was you, but I stand on three legs Two wary feet and a faithful cane Then a step... Then a step... And pain shoots up frayed nerves As I make my way To the bathroom miles away. Determined to be independent like When I once was you. You stood broad shouldered And claimed hearts with a simple smile Leaving temples on your footprints. You stood, the object of coy glances, The proud owner of many wounds, Spots skilfully picked By Cupid's unrelenting bow. I once was you, but Now I lay sleepless, A bag of wrinkles, crowned with a whisper of hair all grey, Bedsheet wrapped around my loneliness, Facing the ever-present absence Of a lost part of my heart; She who was my best friend for life Since when I was you. 3 Likes |

9) Vampire and werewolf -vampire Apex predators, Slave to the sun, Lurks in the dead night, Pale-skinned killer with, Glowing eyes that petrified With one dreadful bite, A blood bath sacrifice Who could fathom, The cold dry heart of a soulless phantom Would break apart When love stings And the heart binges A woman's breath Would bring dark night. -Werewolf Werewolf servant to the moon, Werewolf hides in dark cool caves, Savage brute, furred exterior, Demon's crude, harsh color, power of a pack, weak in it's lonesome, With a bite to its prey, Its prey become one, A werewolf. In a full moon, Its power at it peak, And its growling at its loudest, Mystique, werewolf. Only but an silver bullet drived into the heart of the werewolf, Can it perish and turn to dust. 2 Likes 1 Share |

10. THE SWEET FANG In the inferno of his wealth, men even in sleep, wept. the mountain like a scarf did wear the city but men still crept. Drudging like lazy ducks, dodging like buzzing bugs, From afar,in a snare, oblivious of serpents that lurks, They hastened to their king, who polishes their apparent doom. With his majestic robe of wisdom, believed to have come from the moon. *************** He cut their dried throats to quenched their mild thirst. He stretches for alms and amputated the arm that came first. On his throne he sits to counsel but cancels peace, lingering. Halting the semblance of famine, the last granary he burnt, smiling. To encourage his craft men,he bought his robe so cheap. Lenders had nothing to lend,so he lend to the lenders in heaps. His love for his people, instigates the flaws and contempt, And for his yearning for continuity,he slit the maidens in an attempt. ****************** As birds of a feather hovers together,so they're clustered as sparrows, And in unison did sing the king's praise like merry swallows. Men danced like women seeing a day doted with mirth, And the women perched like men, sharing their fathers myth. As the children with limbs walked, those weaned anew got strapped, And the young clapped and cheered, while the maidens still entrapped. Their king they thought of as a man vomited by the smoky cloud, They dished out rare respect, and all his deeds they applaud. **************** Lo!,in all his bravery, his crown he can't save from rust', His fine robe in all its magnificence, can't repel dust. Now!,this throne he sits ,he'd descend and sit on thorns, And the pearly royal foot-mat beneath his feet, will be torn. Behold!, I see his knee caps worn by the sand, helpless and hapless, Appealing to the people he's pricked in its sour-sweetness. Alas!,tell him to go biblical; on sack clothes,in ashes and from food abstain. Or he'll fall asleep and be woken in a hearth not of coal but of men with stains!. 3 Likes 1 Share |
