The FG keep signing MOU to generate Power since 1999 but nothing to show for it just paper talk.
i am wondering what is so special in generating power that Nigeria cant tackle if actually the Federal Govt is sincere as they pretend to be.
its just a way to loot in more money 1 billion just for 1000 megawatt is just not acceptable.

If the plant is going to run on gas, why not site it near a natural gas rich state, why take it to dry Kastina only to start complaining of pipe line vandalism in the future?

why must everything in this country be politicized.

They would use gas from Niger republic They say, when there is gas in the Niger delta, this colonial anomaly is a joke.

Funny that the FG is just realizing that they need a power plant with such capacity in 2014. Why now? Why this late? Why just before elections? Have they forgotten that power generation is not just saying "we will improve power" but actually building power plants to generate power. Why is our govt slow to act on issues that concerns the masses but fast to act on isssues that concerns their welfare? Sad. *shakes head *

BECAUSE GENERATING POWER IS A CAPITAL INTENSIVE VENTURE, YOU NEED 100m$ TO GENERATE 1mw OF ELETRICITY WHILE IT TAKES 4 TO 5 YEARS WITH ALMOST "2 to 3 thousand work force plus thousands of working hours" TO BUILT A POWER TURBINE, WHICH NIGERIA AS COUNTRY DOES NOT HAVE SINGLE ABILITY OF THE ABOVE, that's where the private sectors comes in! AND FOR PRIVATE INVESTORS TO START ANYTHING THERE SHOULD BE COMPREHENSIVE LEGAL FRAME WORK, EXTENSIVE RESEARCHS, bilateral trades agreements of country of origin of the investors has to be consider! In short everything has to be scrutinies with a fine tooth comb before take off anything which all will fall under MOU OR BTA! Thats my layman understanding and is "DISPUTABLE".

WHY USING GAS FROM NIGER REPUBLIC TO FIRE THE TURBINE...WE HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH AND WE ARE STILL FLARING GAS HERE IN THE NIGER DELTA

WILL NIGER REPUBLIC GIVE US THIS GAS SUPPLY FOR FREE? THE ANSWER IS NO.

WITH THE CURRENT ECONOMIC SUITATION OF NIGERIA ,THIS IS THE BEST FG CAN DO?

WHICH WAY NIGERIA?

LET US WAKE UP AND DO THE NEEDFUL.

Exporting What We Don't Produce and Importing What we Flare Since 1960!

Following the bright idea of bringing in refined oil products from Niger we now move on to importing natural gas from Niger while we continue flaring gas in the Delta and leaving gas in the ground. Such progress under GEJnomics! Yet even this is touted as a policy success!

At least the North is weaning itself off moribund naija. It has its own army (cJTF), its regional economic and energy linkages and its emirs rule kingdoms that span beyond naija. I hope Tinubu and his boys are learning how it is done.

We need an LNG regassifier at Egbin and all along the SW coast to deliver the more than 20,000MW the SW needs for prosperity. We need to accelerate development of the LEKOIL field and Aje even as we need to accelerate exploration on and offshore the SW. Ondo fields need to be optimally exploited. Bitumen can't be allowed to waste any longer. Oodua moneybags should pour their billions into these areas.

The bluff of the ND should be called and we should be the ones to propose the amicable break up of what was the Blackman's best hope for redemption. We can restart from zero and ally with like minded people in Bendel, Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana etc if we think we need scale. All we have gotten for five decades from being part of this nation has been abuse and retardation. We should leave oil and governance to those who believe they own both.

All these projects when crude oil is now $78 perr barrel

The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, who signed the contracts on behalf of the government, said the proposed power project was highly innovative as its promoter, Strancton, working with Katsina State, would use gas from Niger Republic to fire the plant.

What is wrong with this Govt? Gas is been flared in nigeria, then we go ahead to get same gas from Niger Republic,or are they giving us the gass for free?

Niger is closer to Katsina. Building a gas pipeline network from Niger delta to the north, makes no economic sense.

this (MoU) is one thing that really drives me crazy about the Nigerian govt, just this year alone they have signed morethan 30 of their madness with nothing to show for it.

itz like each time they sign one this madness, the power situation worsens.

"the only the thing that remains constant is Nigeria's power supply"-Isaac newton's fourth law.we have heard this many times before,so with 10billion dollars we can generate at least 10,000MW yet inspite of the numerous billions it still doesnt pass 3000MW.

And what do you think will or can happen, if and when Nigeria has a disagreement with Niger Republic?

You dont think it is foolish to put such a "strategic power" in the hand of unpredictable neighbours?

Let us learn from what happened to Russia, concerning the buying and building of its Mistral Warship from France.

That Ship was paid for, was built for Russia, Russian Seamen have trained on it and a delivery date has been set..... until Russia and France /E.U had a disagreement over Ukraine.

France simply REFUSED to DELIVER THE WARSHIP!

REASON: It is dangerous to sell such advance warship to Russia, which it might use against us in-case war breaks out over Ukraine! shocked shocked

When it comes to items that border on "National Security" (Power, Weapons, Water, e.t.c), even if it is not economical, you still dont hand it over to foreigners!

When asked why Britain is not building its Warship from France, who seems a specialist in such items, British PM replied: It is a matter of "National Security".
When furhter probed on why Britain is not selling Warships to Russia, like France, He replied: There are technology that we own and are proprietory to us! We wont share such technology.

I guess it is only in Nigeria that isuses like national Security starts and ends with chasing Political opponents! grin grin

Actually it's done all over the world, Nigeria already supplies almost all our neighbors power, it had to do that as a result of the kainji dam. It will not be cost effective to supply gas from the Niger delta, it will cost too much to build the infrastructure and also cost to much to maintain.

With the rate of vandalism in nigeria and our poor maintenance skills, I as.an engineer will rather build any pipe as short as reasonably possible. In this case Niger is nearer and also economically cheaper.

The best alternative is not to build such infrastructure in the North. It's too dangerous up there, the risks are far too great.

i get your point sir, but remember past governments have been signing MoU's since 1999, where are the results.....

I know there would be legal framework, research, capital and all that cow dung, but at least, let there be feedback to the media, every step of the way

apart from security, our pressing engagement as at now is POWER, so why cant we be kenly informed of any projects, any visits, with proof, pictures, anything!!!

But no, we just hear that an MoU is signed, and THAT'S IT!!! We no hear sounmd again, then they would sign another MoU again, and the "chopping" continues
