THE EBOLA FIGHTERS have been named "Persons of the Year 2014."

Who are "The Ebola Fighters?" American Missionary physicians, African doctors, Entrepreneurs and Activist writers in the African Diaspora and local African nurses who, without specialized training, risked their lives to care for victims of the Ebola virus, a terrible fast-killing disease that very few people had heard of, much less understood. So many healthcare workers succumbed to Ebola virus. Others were beaten and murdered by angry villagers driven by fear, suspicion and superstition.

The current epidemic of the Ebola hemorrhagic fever started in the West African nation of Guinea, in March 2014. With unusual speed it spread to Sierra Leone, Liberia...and Nigeria. Factual scientific information was between very scarce and nonexistent. So, "419ners," religious opportunists and wild rumors held Nigerians hostage. Some of us spent months of sleepless nights researching and posting medical and basic hygiene information to counter the fear and superstition that led many Nigerians to resort to chewing "bitter" kola and drinking lizard blood. Many Nigerians were hospitalized after drinking goat-dosage quantities of salt. Finally, after months of trials, errors, terror and pure luck Nigeria became Ebola-free.

After thousands died in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia the world finally woke up and is responding decisively and systematically. New Ebola infections in Liberia have reduced from "hundreds per day to a tens per week," said Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf this week while visiting the United States. Though many are still dying "small victories" are being scored over Ebola in Sierra Leone and Guinea.
PERSON OF THE YEAR is an annual edition of the United States news magazine TIME that features and profiles a person, group, idea or object that "for better or for worse...has done the most to influence the events of the year." [Wiki]

Those who fought and/or still fighting Ebola have now been globally recognized as Persons of the Year 2014. I concur. And as I wrote on my Twitter page today:
