The Rotary Club of Ibadan, Jericho Metro has partnered with Kakanfo Inn and Conference Centre, Ibadan to give free eye test to pupils of secondary schools in the city. The project is also in collaboration with the University College Hospital, one of the most reputed teaching hospitals in Nigeria. The Director, Community Service, Rotarian Adekunle Are, said two schools had benefitted from the project while Urban Day Secondary School, Jericho, Ibadan is the latest beneficiary.


He said, “We are collaborating with Kakanfo and UCH in the eye outreach project, which is one of the services we are offering the society this year. “We are examining the eyes of all the pupils and staff with the aim of enhancing their academic ability. Visibility is vital to education so we felt that we should take it as a project.” On Thursday, about 650 individuals benefitted from the project and Are said those who needed further assessment would be referred to UCH.


According to Are, the club decided to embark on the project following a drop in academic performances of pupils during examination. He said, “Having examined some of the reasons that were adduced to this fall, we decided to come in from this angle because eye problems are better battled at the early stage. Once they are well treated, the pupils will have no fear of future optical problems.”
