MOST PEOPLE IN LAGOS ARE NOT HUMANS
I made up my mind since last week to celebrate
Christmas in Lagos. I had waited anxiously for
this moment because Lagos to me is another
country. For a man who has travelled to over
48 countries of the World, the thought of lagos
shouldn't elicit much excitement but the mare
fact that I ran away from this city since 2008
after back to back Okada accidents leaves me
with some wonderful memories that will linger
on for years to come. As the air hostess
stepped forward to announce our imminent
arrival, I peeped through the side window to
behold the state of excellence. From the sky,
the excellence was not visible. Lagos has lost
it's beauty from a distance. The roofs have
gone old with age, the houses have lost their
glamour and the streets are congested with
humans, cars and animals of various species.
Soon the plane landed. The landing was not
perfect, the pilot came down like someone in a
haste and left many gasping for breath. The
struggle for space as we walked into the
waiting launge left me wandering, why the
haste? I soon got an airport taxi and headed
for Abule Egba my final destination. This was
when the frustration proper began. A journey
from the Airport to Abule Egba under normal
circumstances will take 20 minutes or less, but
yesterday, I was on the road for five hours. It
was one of the most frustrating five hours of
my 2014. The car AC was in perfect condition
all through, but I was sweating profusely inside
due to boredom, tiredness and frustration.
Inside the car, I saw over a million people
walking and a million others driving. I saw
children crossing the busy roads with the
boldness of lions, I saw children and adults
hawking, I saw beggers. Some singing, some
dancing and some crawling. The more
appealing group was the handsome fulani kids
running after every passerby. It didn't end
there, I also saw a train loaded with over 500
passengers heading towards Agbado Ijaye.
Some passengers sat on the roof of the train,
others on the cabin while some others sat by
the side windows.
Not long after, I was at Abule Egba. I alighted
from the car to behold even more crowd.
Everyone seem to be moving to no destination.
They were going and coming like Abikus on
rampage. The time was 11pm on Tuesday night
but the hold-up was still very thick and biting. I
hurried into an hotel by the roadside, ate dinner
and slept off like a log of wood after an hectic
day of unending journey. This morning, those
memories returned . It's Christmas but I am
not too excited to go to town because of the
hold up which has now given me that
unfortunate impression that not all Lagosians
are human afterall.

Your observation is true without exaggeration. However, I wish you would edit the topic. "Not human" sounds like animals, and trust me that is way too far a wrong adjective for Lagosians.
Think about this, why is Lagos over populated ? why do we have traffic every where even on third mainland bridge(a 1 km bridge without pot holes) ? Why are people coming into Lagos daily ?
My answer- Lagos is a perfect market where buyers of all social strata meet both rich and poor. It is the home of politics where decision is taken. Home of entertainment, where young musicians and artist network. It is a commercial centre housing the Sea port, Major International airport, Alaba International market, various Embassies, religious camp and prayer grounds. Almost all head quarters of leading companies are in Lagos.
Job seekers have better chances in Lagos than other states even when they will be made to work elsewhere they get the link indirectly from Lagos.
One other remarkable part of Lagos is you get to survive with whatever income you make, there are extremely cheap houses and extremely cheap food.
Lagos has horrible traffic because it is seated on a small expanse of land and houses too many business men unlike other states like Ogun,Oyo,Ekiti,Kwara etc.
Lagos as crazy as it is has plans for every hardworking youth, that accounts for why a lot rather endure all the inconvenience you have mentioned for a better tomorrow.
Welcome to Lagos bro,but please be wise so you dont come here to share a story of how you got scammed in Lagos. Merry Christmas.
