jeflexy: Look at number three! I thought snakes are deaf! All these are clearly superstitious nonsense but it is fasci - nating to see the cultural origins. Every culture has its superstitions and they reflect the history of the culture. Some superstitions even have practical origins. 'Walking under a ladder brings bad luck' - especially if someone is working up the latter and drops something on your head! |

kristisking: They are only old superstitions and recognised as such by ALL educated people. Don't judge all Nigerians by the few uneducated ones who still believe such rubbish Instead encourage African Development and Education to eradicate superstition. In Europe we still have our own superstitions! No Irish still believe in Leprechauns or Banshee's. Unless OF COURSE there is an American Tourist nearby! |

Sweeping at night is believed to be a bad practice. Also,a man who crosses the legs of a pregnant lady must retrace his steps because it is believed that the unborn child will look like him. |

They are superstitions however if you flaunt it in the faces of the custodians, they can invoke those consequences on them. E.g.: heard of a son of a witch who saw by mistake their rituals which men should not see. The wise boy confided in his mom who told him to hush and never tell a soul else word would get back to the witches and they will hurt him which would prove the superstition right. |
