There is usually this misconception especially by job seekers that a resume is the same as a Cv while some argue that a resume is not as important as a Cv. Your getting a better job especially multinational companies depend on your understanding of the difference and quality of both. Here i try to give a brief and comprehensive explanation of the difference between both because they are not the same.

TO START WITH

Before you decide whether to submit a Cv or a resume, you will need to determine which of them will most appropriately fit the criteria provided by the employer. Nowadays in Nigeria, most company will not intruct you to submit either a Cv or Resume but their requirement will state otherwise, it is left for you to use your discretion and know what they want, your ability to decipher their needs will make you stand out.

A CURRICULUM VITAE(CV)

A Cv is an indepth document that can be laid out over 2 or more pages and it contain a high level of details about your achievement. A Cv is static and doesnt change for different position, the different might only occur on your cover letter. The primary difference between a resume and a Cv are the length, what is included, and what each is used for. A Cv is longer and provide a more detailed synopsis. A Cv can also be said to be an overview details of your life accomplishment. It has its greatest utility in the pursuit of a job in academics or research. For a fresh graduate, your Cv might only be 2-3 page in length.

A typical Curriculum vitae(Cv) contains

1. Name and contact information: Information for your current institution or place of employment may work best. In Nigeria, most of us usually put our house address which is wrong if you have a job at hand.

2. Areas of interest: A list of your varied academic interest

3. Education: A list of your degree earned or in progress, institutions, and years of graduation. Adding the title of your dissertation might be an added advantage

4. Grants received, Honours and Awards: A list of grants received, honour bestowed upon you for your work, and awards you might have receive

5. Publications and presentation: A list of your publication articles and book, as well as presentations given at conference

6. Employment and experience: Your field experience, Laboratory experience, voluntary works, leadership and other relevant experience you have gathered.

7. Scholarship and professional membership: A listing of the professional organization of which you are a member. If you have held an office or position in a particular organization, you can state it here.

8. Reference: A list of persons who write letters of recommendations for you, which includes their contact information

A RESUME

A resume is a one or two page summary of your skills, experience, and education while a resume is brief and concised, no more than a page or two. The goal of a resume is to make an individual stand out from competition. You should adopt a resume to every organization you apply fot. It is in your interest to change the resume from one job application to another and tailor it to the needs of the specific post. A resume is a brief summary of your skills and experience while a Cv give more details about you.

A typical resume will include the following information

1. Name and contact information: Here you use your residential address while in Cv here might contain your current job address.

2. Education: A listing of your degree or certification and educational institution or program

3. Work experience: Names of the companies or organization that you have worked for, the location of each company, the dates worked, your job titled and roles/ duties performed

op, why are you misleading people with this half-baked info?

pls and pls resume and CV are one and same, only that the British and Australians use the term CV and Americans and Canadians resume.

Lastly, your CV or resume must not be more than 2 pages if you want to be taken seriously. If you can do 1page, that would be great.

In your CV or Resume, ensure to focus on your strength and Can-do attributes. Make it short and professional. Your dob, ur marital status, gender or your LGA are not strengths. They disadvantage you, because those are interview questions. And if they are important, it would already be in the ad. I would personally thrash such CVs.

Good luck and don't forget Nigeria uses British.

Never use your work address as advised by this misleading op. Don't use P. O. box alone either. Use a residential address - your own, your uncle, your friend. Employers want to know from where you would be coming to work.

I just told you the difference..is left for you. The requirement of any company will tell you whether to submit a resume or Cv. They are totally two different thing, knowing the difference now is an added advantage. Thanks..kindly understand the post very well based on your query of using "work address".
