6. The Amazing Spider man 2: $709million Studio: sony/ columbia Release date: may 2, 2014 Estimated budget: $200million The latest installment in the revamped spider man franchise might have performed well with a seemingly impressive $91.6million opening weekend but giving spidey's brand recognition and hype for the sequel, it probably should have been the first $100million opening of the year. The opening weekend was the worst as compared with any of the original Spider man franchise and overall its the worst performing movie of the five. Reviewers weren't particularly taken by the over-bloated installment as critics generally noted that the film focused more on building its franchise than on story telling. The movie was by no means a failure but it was a box office disappointment putting the future of the franchise at sony in question
