They actually check the worth of the suitor to bill him. And note that most girl don't get married in this zone because of the economic situation of Nigeria, You see some big aunties that were already in Secondary School when we were small, today guy man don marry, they are yet to, moving from one prayer house to the other. Some of the girls, help to save money to assist the would be husband in settling some bills. 1 Like |

preselect: Fallacy!!! I dont know the tribe you are from but if I may ask, is marriage guaranteed for all the women in your tribe? There is hardly a marriage that fails to materialise today because the Husband cannot perform Traditional Wedding. it is nt compulsory to perform traditional wedding ceremony. You may choose to pay the dowry and go on with your white wedding. You also fail to realise that Ibo culture varies from tribe to tribe. Some pays dowry below #1000. Some have restrictions on the number of guests (from both parties). Some limits the food to be cooked and the drinks to be consumed _ allin a bid to cut cost. There are over 5000 igbo communities with different cultures, so you may need to be specific when you say "Igbos" cos the culture varies 2 Likes |

Larow: And you think that the reason why the 80 years old man married late is because of bride price? Your reasoning is really poor! There are many reason for that brother. i will tell you if you ask. Moreover, Yorubas dont marry. They co-habit. I have lived in Asipa (Osun) and Ibadan, I am sure you know what I am talking about. Only few Lagos Yorubas marry. Others mainly impragnate a girl and take her in- without any marriage whatsoever. Worst still, the men hardly cater for the wife (particularly in Ibadan) For an Ibo man, it is their duty to take care of their wife (The degree of the woman doesnt matter). So when an ibo man tarries to marry, it is not becouse of bride price but because he is not ready for marriage responsibilities which only few "wise yorubas" takes up after marriage. 4 Likes |

azzima: Did you ask them what they mean by wedding? whether Traditional or White? If you want to invite Saide Osupa, Flavour, Davido etc to your wedding and does anything illegal to get the money, do you blame the Culture or yourself? Be more reasonable brother. 1 Like |

Anambra State, Nnewi for sure bride price is no big deal. My father told the story at my introduction on how back in the day you just had to buy a motorcycle for the bride so she can visit her family. Nnewi men(Umudim especially) like my father, will even sponsor the wedding and give you money to start life. If you come up and marry Nnewi woman you dey hammer! Life will always change for the better. 1 Like 1 Share |

praise010:the more reason young and agile men are rendered fatherless, no 1 to continuously pay their tuition and they end up spare parts sellers and fill the whole of Lagos doing all sorts of menial and criminal jobs. Guy face d fact, na high bride price or gross irresponsibility de make una men no de quick de marry! Yorubas are obviously wiser, that is d reason u'll see some1 as young as I am getting happilly married at such a young age and taking responsibility! Dis is abnormal across d niger! 1 Like |

Most tribes in nigeria dont marry, all they do is cohabiting.... out of their gross ignorant, they come out and say marriage is expensive in other tribes. they are many tribes in nigeria that their marriage right is hardly ever exusted, most of them just co habit, to them marriage is cheap in their place. yet igbos contract and have stable and responsible marriages more than most other tribes in nigeria. |

dre11: All these tins depend on ur wife, am from Anambra and I know my sis had to tell dad that his husband no to get money, d guy no spend reach 50k for everything self. So if u form say money dey, na to spend am naw, If ur wife no fit defend u, den she follow cause am. Most times wen one gets to a poor family, dats d shit dey encounter. In my place, d only part d man spends is wen he wishes ti celebrate with a million ppl which is his business, d babe family cooks and serves her visitors, d male do same. So d male family supports if dey see d female's is not financially strong. As for my family, na we celebrate am not d guy, in as much as that's whom she loves, we let go after investigations. |
