Claira Hermet, from Essex, has lost both her sister, Emily, and mother, Jane, to breast cancer aged 31 and 42 respectively.
She found out that she also carries the faulty BRCA1 gene that predisposes her to the disease as well. Having the BRCA1 gene means she has an 85 per cent chance of contracting the disease. She has made the courageous decision to have a double mastectomy to avoid this ever happening to her as well. Claira held a Goodbye Boobs party last week as a celebration of her assets, she will have her 32DD breasts removed in a double mastectomy next week when she will also have them reconstructed and she will have to take six weeks off work to recover from the major operation.

She was nine years old when her mother died. Then, as Emily's health declined a decade later, Claira opted to have tests which revealed that she, like her sister, carried the faulty BRCA1 gene that predisposed her to breast cancer: she had an 85 per cent chance of contracting the disease that had killed the two women she loved most in the world.
