Bayern Munich, Barcelona
and Paris Saint-Germain
are Europe’s most
dominant possession
teams, with the Bundesliga
leaders leading the Huawei
Team Ranking ahead of
Luis Enrique’s men and the French champions in
third.
The Bavarians – who are still enjoying the
German winter break - have enjoyed 71 per cent
possession on average in their games so far this
season, winning 14 out of 17 and holding an 11-
point lead over second-placed Wolfsburg.
Barcelona have been nearly as strong in La Liga
with an average of 70 per cent possession after
19 games. The Catalans beat Deportivo 4-0 on
Sunday but remain second behind Real Madrid.
In France, PSG have been impressive on the ball
with an average of 66 per cent possession and
their 4-2 win over Evian at the weekend saw
them climb to third place in the Ligue 1 table.
Roma are the most dominant team on the ball in
Serie A with an average of 62 per cent
possession, even though they had to settle for a
1-1 draw with Palermo on Saturday and saw
leaders Juventus move five points clear.
The Turin outfit sit joint fifth with Manchester
City, with both sides averaging 60 per cent of
the ball in Serie A and the Premier League
respectively.
Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United closely
follow their city rivals on 59 per cent, while Real
Madrid, Marseille, Fiorentina and Rayo
Vallecano complete top 10, all enjoying 58 per
cent possession on average.
At the bottom end of the table, Crystal Palace
seem to care little about having the ball,
averaging 37 per cent possession so far this
term, while Levante (40 per cent), Hertha Berlin
(41 per cent), Metz (41 per cent) and Chievo (41
per cent) have seen the least of the ball in Spain,
Germany, France and Italy respectively.
