A former Flying Eagles coach, John Obuh, hailed as commendable and instructive the performance of the national under-20 male football team at the 2014/2015 Super 4 Invitational Tournament.The Flying Eagles on Sunday at the Abuja National Stadium emerged champions of the six-team tournament held from Jan. 24 to Feb. 1.They beat 2013/2014 Glo Premier League champions Kano Pillars and 2014 Federation Cup winners Enyimba International FC, as well as Dolphins FC and Warri Wolves in their opening four games.
With an unassailable 12 points, the under-20 side then played out a 3-3 draw in their final game against the Dream Team VI on Sunday.
Obuh, who was coach of the team's 2011 and 2013 squads, said that the Flying Eagles had done well and deserved a huge commendation.
``We have to congratulate them because they have done well and they deserve our commendation.
``They have outplayed all the top league teams in this tournament and have beaten all of them in the process.
``A draw against their under-23 counterparts in their final game of the tournament was also a very good result for the team.
``I’m very happy for them and excited as well, because I think we have a very good team that is looking likely to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup for the first time for Nigeria.
``The coaches have also done well in assembling these boys because the way they play shows purpose and direction and hopefully they will do well at the African Youth Championship (AYC) in Senegal next month,” he said.
