Good evening house.

Please I have a big challenge on my hands. A male teen that looks up to me so much has confided in me that he is always depressed for no reason and that he has creepy suicidal thoughts. These were his exact words: "An average day for me is in depression, the strange/unusual day for me is when I get a bit excited...." I know it is a general characteristic of melancholic people to be depressed, but I need help on how to help this young man live with this psychological condition, especially since he's counting on my help..

I didn't know it is melancolic to be sucidal even as a melancoly dt I am.
I will suggest he prays about it and he should try not to be idle at any time, get smthing doing at every time. An idle hand is d devil's workshop.

Is he in Nigeria? He needs to see his GP who can give him a referral to a someone who could help him. If he is in the US then he is covered under his parents health insurance and insurance usually pays for therapy or medication he might need. Please do not put it off. Where ever he is, he will need professional help. There are people here who have shared stories of how medication has helped them and they live in Nigeria. Do a search in the health section. There's hope.

I was once in his shoes and my dad recommended something which actually worked for me.
anytime he is depressed he should think of anything that makes him happy, even if it means him fantasising it will help to restore his happiness.

secondly he should make or associate with friends of opposite emotional status, probably friends that joke and are always in a happy mood.

then for you who wants to help him I suggest you talk with him more often, build up a trust with him that way he will reveal the source of his depression and in so doing you can render appropriate help( most sources of depression for young people are either family related or peer related)

His depression might be the result of a chemical imbalance in his brain. He should see a psychiatrist if possible, medication might be the solution.

Another reason could be something he experienced, then he would have to see a psychologist regularly to "work it off".

God give him strength.
