Paulpaulpaul: I doubt if we are looking at the same map here. Zoom in and rephrase your statement. Besides Lagos, I see no other illuminated south-western abode. Majority of the illumination comes from the South - South and South-East! Most of the intense lighting are from ships/ocean vessels along the shoreline. |

Idrismusty97:The person that raised the issue of gas flaring as the reason for the illumination of S.south, S.east & offshore is only being smart by half! Have you seen a deep offshore oil platform before? It is not necessarily gas flaring, Bonga deep sea oil platform is like kaleidoscope of complex lights of varied colours! The same applies for oil terminals & plants like LNG in Bonny island. Now do you also ascribe the illumination of Onitsha/Asaba region & Lagos areas to gas flaring?? My brother, this has everything to do with economic activity & production more than anything else!!! |

from detailed observations from the map apart from the delta/Rivers/cross rivers shores which have very high illumination as a result of the oil and gas activities going on in the region Imo state seems to have the highest illumination from this map is it as a result of the night life? |

AkinEgba:look properly. see Yenagoa for example. Yenagoa is closer to brass and brass is the at the shore of the Atlantic ocean. after brass you see gas flaring on the ocean. there is a lot of gas flaring on the land too. check the image

adorable29: It is not JUST about population density. Ten thousand people in an industrialised town will be visible where a million people living spread out in small non industrialised farming communities will not. In smaller countries with similar conditions and demographics over the entire country different inferences will be drawn from a photo like this than you would make from a much larger country with different human demographics and geographical conditions in its regions. |
