this thread has been created to enable users of ford escape share experiences on how to best maintain their vehicles.i had a peculiar experience with my ford escape 2001 yesterday when it got stuck in reverse.i called my mechanic who was already telling me it was a transmission issue and i might need to get the cable.i decided to get on google and suprisingly,i got instructions on how to fix it myself.

i am yet to get a good ford mechanic since i got my vehicle and i will appreciate any referrals around ojo,badagry,egbeda,ikotun and environs.thanks

others can also share their experience and suggestions on how best to maintain this particular brand of vehicle since there seems to be a high influx of them on lagos roads

Quite a lovely car. My wife uses the 04 or 05 model. Loyal if well maintained.

Pls always use the right oil. Na wetin fit Bleep you up be that.

I also observed that the no of escapes now are unprecedented, which keeps me wondering why ford is yet to think of an Assembly Plant in Naija.

Personally, I see American Domestic cars (Ford and etc) as strong cars. All you need to enjoy a car is proper and regular maintenance. Go ahead and buy a ford is you like it.

Just make sure you are not buying one with ready made issues.

every car develops different problems if not well maintained.however,it would seem the ford escape is prone to transmission issues if the wrong ATF is used.my manual says mercon 3 is the recommended ATF

Get a tech to diagnose the engine and transmission before paying so you are sure there no issues there. American cars are generally durable so long as you don't let them over heat and you use the correct fluids & service at the right time.

Good day all. I'm using ford escape 2005 model. I changed the radiator recently and the mechanic mistakenly connected the gear oil hose to the water pipe and water and gear oil mixed together.

I tried to get another mechanic who flushed the mixed gear oil with another gear oil, but as at right now, my gear is not engaging .

Please is my gear box spoilt or can it be repaired? If it can be repaired, do we have any ford gear specialist on here and also do anyone have an idea of how much a complete ford escape gear would cost?
