The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has said that the 2015 Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examinations, UTME, will commence next week March 9, across the country.

Its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Fabian Benjamin, told Vanguard, yesterday: “All the logistics for the examination have been put in place and the examination will start on March 9 across the 400 centres in the country.”

He explained that the examination will last for 10 days, adding that it will be rounded off on March 21.
“There are going to be breaks during the days, but the exams are going to run for 10 days,” he added.

Please, how do foreign schools give admission in developed countries. Do they write JAMB like in Nigeria or schools have to organise their own entrance exam?

Varies....

The UK has a two tier system. You do five years of secondary school, write O levels...and based on your grades...proceed to do A levels...which means two extra years in secondary school....after which you write A level exams for university...which you must pass at a certain level before they let you in (If you want to be a doctor...na A star in all your subjects).

The US uses the SAT exam....which is like our JAMB. The higher the score...the berra your chances.

France has the Baccalaureate...which is like WAEC/NECO....but with more subjects....and you better do well in all of them.

China has the Gaokao....possibly the toughest of the lot (Preparations for that exam commence when you are ten years old)

Here in the US, high school seniors take an exam called the SAT. The SAT is a standardized exam, just like JAMB. It's the only external university entrance exam in the US.
In addition, the universities also request a prospective student's High school transcripts and a personal essay (or personal statement).
