Difference Between Power Supplied From PHCN And Power Supplied By Generators by saintfizzo(m): 5:04pm On Mar 18, 2015
Please I need an answer/clarification on this subject, each time I buy a phone, I'm advised to charge first with power from PHCN, charging with other sources like generator could damage my battery..... only makes me wonder, what is the difference in power gotten from both sources?

In a layman's term ......The power from PHCN is stable and with fixed frequency whereas the generator though may look stable, is not always delivering fixed frequency electricity supply.

What this means is that instead of your phone's battery to be charged on 240v 50Hz steadily when on PHCN, on generator it fluctuates between 200v/230v/240v 50Hz/45Hz/55Hz which may result in your battery not evenly charged. This is usually a resultant cause leading to mobile phone device/battery explosions.

Notwithstanding that PHCN sometimes deliver low voltage or fluctuating current, since it passes through the standard transformer it is well regulated to a steady frequency compared to the generators AVR.

I hope this helps out.
