Court Orders Civil Defence To Reinstate 180 Retrenched Officials

Justice Oluseun Adefolake Shogbola of the National Industrial Court (NIC) yesterday ordered the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to reinstate 180 sacked officers and men.

The court also directed the NSCDC to return the employment letters to the 180 affected staff.

The court further ordered the NSCDC to pay all their arrears totalling about N1.2 billion.

The court also restrained the NSCDC from further tampering with the employment of the claimants.

The claimants were sacked sometimes in 2007 by the NSCDC who said that the claimants were never bonafide staff of the NSCDC.

According to NSCDC, there was no existing valid contract of employment with the claimants, adding that the claimants were never short listed and that no appointment letters were given to them.

NSCDC said that their letters of employment are all fake alleging that the claimants have never been employed by the defendants.

Commandant-General NSCDC purportedly sacked the claimants alleging that their letters of employment were fake.

But claimants’ pensions have always been credited even though their salaries were not paid.

Claimant said that they are entitled to salaries and that their entitlements should be paid.

The defendant’s counsel argued that the claimants were not legally recruited by the NSCDC.
