There are some professions in Nigeria that are taken for granted and the battery charger profession is one of them. I am sure most parents out there won’t take it kindly with their children if they tell them a battery charger is what they want to be, I know I wont but lets face it, there comes a time when the battery charger is our saving grace.

Some examples experienced by most vehicle owners in Nigeria
After facing a hectic traffic a night before, you wake up early the next morning in order to beat the early morning rush and meet up with an important appointment, you get into your car, turn the ignition and to your surprise you’re met with a squealing noise without the car starting.

Or

After a hectic day at work you call it early in order to beat traffic and get home early for a well deserved rest so you can be refreshed for the next day, you say your goodbyes at the office and make your way to the car park, on getting into your car and turning on the ignition and all you get is an engine that refuse to crank.

The final outcome
Most of the time scenario 1 turns out this way: The engineer/mechanic in the individual involve kicks in; he suspect it’s his battery then opens the bonnet of his vehicle and start tweaking with the battery terminals in order to get the car to start. After wasting so much time and ignoring his wife’s advice (that’s if he’s married) he realize the traffic he’s trying to avoid has started to build up and lateness stares him in the face. He finally lets his pride down and calls the battery charger down the street which his wife or partner had advised him thirty minutes earlier.

Scenario 2 might turn out this way: He would first send his fist into the steering wheel several times before opening the bonnet of the vehicle, this when the security guard would ask “oga hope no problem” and the oga in turn would wave the security away while focusing on solving the issues at hand. After some minutes of tweaking with the battery with no result he calls the security guard who quickly gets a battery charger for his oga and over charges him for it.

How much it cost to your battery charged
The Battery Charger has saved so many people from such embarrassing situations in Nigeria especially early in the morning and in the evening when people are so much in a rush to beat traffic. The average Battery Charger will charge you N500 to N750 depending on your area to jump start your vehicle and a N1, 500 for you to rent a battery for a whole day. This doesn’t take more than 2 minutes when a fully charged battery is connected to your own weak battery, you kick your vehicle and your engine comes alive. You pay him and he’s on his way.

A battery charger in Nigeria does his operation with little space and an easy to miss signage but they serve an important aspect in the auto repair industry in Nigeria. You might have seen them while you drive or walking down the street with a battery on their shoulder going to help another motorist with a dead battery without paying attention to them.

Advice for every vehicle owners
NOTE: It is advisable for vehicle owners to have a jumper cable which is used for connecting a fully charged battery to a weak battery just in case you’re in an area when there are no battery chargers around but there people whose car battery are working fine and are willing to help.

After all these, most vehicle owners forget to get their charging system checked by professionals in order to determine what the issue is with the system and get it fix until these whole scenario happens all over again and this time they miss their appointments for real.
